Does anyone know of a restaurant where I can get some quality authentic Mexican cuisine in LA? I have a friend/business contact coming from Mexico and I want him to feel...

Depends on what part of town you're in. Salsa and Beer in the Valley is great, though I can't vouch for it's authenticity. There's also El Tepeyac in LA that's delicious. On a side note, if I was coming from Mexico to America I probably wouldn't want Mexican food. Once I went to Germany and my German friends thought it would be fun taking me to and American restaurant and I had to shoot that idea down. What's the point of traveling if you're only going to experience things you experience at home?

Business dinner options: Gardens of Taxco (West Hollywood), Red O (Melrose), La Serenata de Ghirabaldi (Santa Monica), Rivera (Downtown) Cheap good tacos: El Taurino (just west of Downtown, Pico/Union)

Malo is amazing, especially if you like Tequila or Mezcal. They just opened up a new one downtown. Highly recommended.

What part of Mexico is he from? You will be able to find many restaurants that have food from certain parts of Mexico. Also what type of places does he like, formal site down restaurants, little mom & pop joints to taco trucks. Taco trucks are still pretty unique to L.A. although in Mexico they have lots of street vendors.

Any Vallartas supermarket that has a taqueria in it.

I'm from Sombrerete, Zacatecas and I can vouch for you that the atmosphere of Hungtinton Park (this is a city) clearly personifies the Mexican vibe you are looking. I've only been there once, but I can attest that this place truly is a chip off the old block to imitating the Mexican cuisine around the town. Any restaurant there will surely meet your friend's expectations. I am most confident that he or she will be pleased.

There are hundreds of mexican food places in LA, with very authentic food, and Im sure a lot of the cooks and owners are pretty fresh out of mexico too. Try east LA, or the plethora of food trucks. Of curse he may not want plain ol' authentic mexican food, being from mexico. There are a lot of restaurants with a fusion. I know korean/mexican is pretty big. Or a place that tries to put a high-end spin on mexican food. Or maybe he just would appreciate a burger.

I'm sorry... is this question for real? You're having trouble finding mexican food in LA?

The taco truck on Venice just west of La Cienega. Not the yellow one the other one. Also why would you take a Mexican to Mexican food? I don't get it. Somehow I don't think he went abroad to be at home. Either way you should totally eat at that truck. Oh my ghad.

Drive around in the valley for a bit once the sun goes down. I wouldn't be surprised if they're called roach coaches because they are so numerous when the lights go out.

What about Taco Bell? :P But why just Mexican food? Why not give him something a little different since he is visiting. Try Houston's in Pasadena, maybe Lucielles. Or go for a sandwich at Phillipe's in Downtown LA.

I live in Thornaby, which has been recommended, but it doesn't really meet your criteria, as it doesn't sound rural enough. The places you have looked at sound fine for you. Also try Stokesley, Hilton, Maltby, Chop Gate (pronounced Chop Yat). In this area there's plenty of small villages dotted around the towns of Stockton, Guisborough, Middlesbrough, Thornaby. I pass through most of them whilst out cycling, and there's a lot of choice that seem to meet your requirements.
dlrose replied:
Don't know what salary you're on so that will make some of the difference, ie Yarm and Eaglescliffe are quite nice, they are also quite expensive for the area. (traffic through Yarm can be a bloody nightmare as well) If you look along A67 headed towards Darlington, you hit Middleton St George, Middleton One Row, Sadberge, all nice villages. Further along east, would be Hurworth and Neasham, both nice. North you've got Wynyard, Sedgefield. You can also pop over to https://www.police.uk/durham/ and https://www.police.uk/cleveland/ to look up crime stats on the areas.
ud_patter replied:
I used to live up that way in Darlington. Great area once you're away from Stockton & Middlesbrough (also Darlo's a pleasant forgotten town). Try Newton Aycliffe, Barnard Castle. Thornaby, Eaglescliffe & Egglescliffe may also have potential.

Saltburn is really nice and beautiful, and not too far away from Stockton.

Hutton Rudby is gorgeous (my home village) but it comes with a price tag to match. It also can be somewhat snobby and exclusive, so depending on what you're looking for socially I'd bear it in mind. For bang for your buck, I'd be tempted to head North. Greatham is nice and quiet and pretty, but you can quickly get into Hartlepool for amenities. If small towns are ok for you (which Yarm definitely is one), then you could do worse than consider Norton. It's got a real villagey feel with a duck pond and a little high street with nice independent shops and cafes/ restaurants. It's so, so close to Stockton that you'd have a very short commute. It does have a rough end, but round the high street and near it is very nice indeed.
DoctorandtheDog replied:
There are some nice villages north and west of Stockton that meet the criteria: Sadberge, Long Newton, Elton, Carlton, Redmarshall, Whitton, Thorpe Thewles etc.
tmstms replied:
Yarm and Great Ayton are nice. Mainsgill Farm shop on the A66 is nice. There's another one a few miles further on the A66. /u/HPB is a guru who lives nearby. Ask them what they recommend. People will look after their houses and stuff up there for sure BTW Lewis and Cooper, and Barkers are good shops in Northallerton, BTW.
