Is there a harness that anyone here uses and would recommend? The vet said we need to get elevated food bowls and switch to a harness to relieve the pressure off...
Helen B. replied:
I ordered by elevated bowls through target.com. They have metal stands and come in a variety of sizes and colors. My bully is allergic to the plastic stands.
Melinda T. replied:
We use a Ruffwear harness that we got from Med Vets for use on Ellie because of her neck. It has a handle in the middle and attaches to the leash in the middle and is very good and durable. Fits well and she likes it.

Can someone recommend a Vet who will spay a friend's dog for cheap? I know there are places that do this for people who can't afford going the normal route. I think they...
Stephanie N. replied:
https://www.facebook.com/319223955957 People For Animals is one of the few cheaper spay/neuter clinics I haven't heard people have many problems with! I actually have a friend who personally used them on her dog paid maybe $150 for everything including antibiotics and what not. It's a bit of a drive but worth it if you can't afford a normal clinic. Keep in mind you always pay for what you get!
Lisa D. replied:
Yes TARA in Middletown will probably be the cheapest. Dog Spay/Neuter: Our stationary clinic in Middletown spays and neuters dogs every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Prices start at $120 for a male and $150 for a female. This fee includes a rabies vaccine and cone collar. Appointments are required. Please click link below to see TARA’s full price list. http://www.tara-spayneuter.org/snclinic.htm

As someone mentioned above, we also use Dr Puzio at Pomona Animal Hospital. We adopted our dog two weeks ago. He's been great. As for pet insurance, if you or anyone is military or a veteran, check out pet insurance through USAA. They use Embrace. Pretty sure we'll be going with them.
Yania J. replied:
I have banfield insurance, but used Valley Cottage for an emergency with my dog, love them, but can only afford it for emergencies
Samantha B. replied:
Banfield pet hospital. It's inside Petsmart. Valley Cottage Animal Hospital is horrible. I've had many problems in the past with them and heard horrifying stories from some friends as well.
Matthew Z. replied:
Valley Cottage is the best in the county. We have used most before finding them.
Judy M. replied:
I've used Valley Cottage Animal Hospital for almost 20 years! They are wonderful. Dr Atkins is my primary but I also used Drs. Collins, Tortorice, Downing....they are all fantastic! I don't know why some people love bash them but it's a lot of crap! Believe me, my dogs are my life & I trust VCAH implicitly! Also, I have Nationwide insurance & it is very good.
Theresa V. replied:
Love VCAH been using them for 17 yrs. Dr Atkins always takes care of our two dogs and knows everything about them. The rest of the staff is great too !
Dianne H. replied:
I highly recommend Dr. Puzio in Pomona Animal Hospital. He is the most caring, sweetest vet I have ever known. Pomona Animal Hospital is open 7 days a week and Dr. Puzio will sometimes go to Stony Point location. Dr. Lambrich is wonderful too as is Dr. Byman. Pomona Animal Hospital also has a great staff. I can't say enough good things about North Rockland Animal Hospital and Pomona Animal Hospital. I never used insurance for any of my animals but I'm going to look into it for my kittens.
Maxine D. replied:
All Creatures, Pomona. Dr. Christine Miccio and staff. Our place for many years. We have also gone to VC for emergencies and they were great. Oradell, gold standard! Pet insurance, at the very least get surgical/ accident insurance. ASPCA costs us $57/month. $100. deductible and then they pay 80% of what is covered. Just be careful with any insurance, read their fine print and exclusions because it's to easy to get denied if you don't follow the guidelines. But well worth it if your dog needs surgery X-rays labs. Oh, and by the way, CONGRATS on your new addition!!
Tracy D. replied:
Dr. Puzio at Pomona Animal is amazing - I have had my rescue for almost two years and he is such a good vet, caring, and wonderful! I would never be without pet insurance. I've had to use it for a few things now and get reimbursed very quickly - there are different plans to choose but it's such peace of mind knowing if an expensive vet bill comes up you don't have to worry about it - I use Nationwide. You pay the vet bill, submit a simple claim form and they send you a check fairly quick.
Kimberly P. replied:
Valley Cottage Animal Hospital...open 24/7/365. They are one of only a few hospitals in the area that are certified by the American Animal Hospital Association guaranteeing your pet is being treated by vets who are held the highest standards of veterinary care. In addition to routine and emergency care they launched a mobile vet clinic last year. They accept care credit. And in the interest of full disclosure, my husband is the original founder and I worked there for 18 years. ;-)

VCA County Animal Hospital!! It's in Yonkers but just 20-25 min and worth the short drive to have their AMAZINGLY well rounded, talented and extremely caring staff. It's been 12+ years since and she is the most healthy and active pup I know and we are so grateful to still have her in our family. I know my little girl couldn't imagine life without her! They are all fantastic there but Dr. Berg is our family hero: ). Feel free to call me Hun if you have any questions. Xoxo http://m.vcahospitals.com/county-animal-clinic
