Hm. I'm not sure what insurance she takes, and she can be pretty expensive, but Dr. Scheckner is a wonderful therapist. She's very attentive and has a way with working with patients to where you feel a bit raw but also relieved (if that makes sense). Her office is located near the SoHo area, I believe off of Horatio. That being said, each person forms a completely different bond with their therapists, so what worked for me may not work for you. I liked her though! She really helped me work through my general anxiety and gave me some effective coping strategies.

I don't have anyone to suggest, however check with your employer to see if there is an employee assistance program. Typically how that works is you explain what's wrong (stress, anxious feelings, etc) and they should be able to get you connected to a local therapist or get you a list of therapists to select from. It's typically a good starting point.

I go to Dr. Jonathan Sobin and I like him, but he is in South Tampa. I think that he is in most insurance's networks if yours covers therapy.

TBC for CBT, Nancy is a godsend. She's in Brandon unfortunately but with the drive IMO

Depending on what school you're going to, you might have free options at your health clinic or whatever they offer. Just an idea.

I've seen over 5 different therapists in the Tampa area. My favorite was Char Keller in Clearwater. Check if she takes your insurance to help with the cost a bit.

Honestly, go to USF's clinic. They have therapy available to non-students that's reasonable (sliding scale based on your salary/income). I have been in therapy there for a while and it's been wonderful. Edited to add link: http://psc.usf.edu/

I had a lot of good experiences with [Dr. Keough](http://transformationalgrowth.net/). Be sure to ask her about insurance options; I know she's considered in-network for United Health Care.

I really recommend the USF counseling center, it's free and I've heard great things about everyone there. Right now they're doing telehealth appointments, usually on teams. I'm sure you'll be doing a lot better soon, I hope you have a great day! :))

I also use the USF counseling center. All the staff and counselors are great, and have helped me a lot. Also, if you pay student fees, you've already payed for their services, so it doesn't cost anything extra.

My mom is a psychologist in the south Tampa area. If you need some recommendations for that area or near usf for either psychologists or psychiatrists shoot me a message. Unfortunately, lately most reputable doctors in the field don’t take insurance because of the cost. But everyone I have seen in Tampa has been very helpful.

I wanted to echo what the other people posting here have said. I know that school-provided services can be iffy. (I went to a different Florida public school for undergrad and the counselling was pretty pathetic since they were spread so thin.) But I had a great counsellor here at USF. It was probably the best investment in my time I made this past year. She was so wonderful that I couldn't help but to wonder how she provided such great therapy at a presumably lower rate. So that is the one downside that I have heard from my friends that go to USF counselling - since the counsellors are so wonderful and often going through their own professional progression, it can be common to have to switch counsellors as they move away for new jobs, etc. For this reason, I had friend that opted to get psychology care from someone in the community so they could maintain a longer term patient-therapist relationship. Highly recommend the counseling services on campus! It’s included in tuition and fees so it’s “free”. I got an appointment with in a week! Everyone is very nice and it’s a welcoming environment.

I found the counseling center to be helpful as well, but their sessions are short term. If you feel like you need longer-term therapy, the USF Psychological Services Center (in the psych building) is great. My therapist was just fantastic. The clinicians are graduate students in the PhD program. They charge a very small fee based on ability to pay (sliding scale). Good luck!

The counseling center is awesome. Idk what else to say besides you just call in and sign up into the schedule. Unfortunately, counseling is over the phone right now, but def think its worth a shot. Youre already paying for it, might as well use it:)

USF counseling is okay. For most people it’s great, but I did not find it to be successful. Also it was hard to get an appointment or talk about everything I needed to in short sessions. I spoke to a counselor about these issues and she recomended me to thrive counseling services https://www.thriveflorida.com/ . The counselor I see there is Julie and she’s wonderful! They also have a sliding scale to your income as well.

I can vouch for USF counseling as well! I’ve been using them for 2 years, you can choose who you’d like based off their experience and what they specialize in as well.

USF Counseling is great! They have teleconference appointments right now to reduce contact. I always recommend them if you go to USF because they can introduce you to group sessions or or smother USF programs h that can help you in whatever situation you’re in. It’s free as long as you’re enrolled, but they are great in the meantime before you find an outside therapist.
