This is our first full summer in Smokerise and I'm looking for a camp for my 6yo son that's not too far away. Any suggestions? I see that Gwinnett Parks offer a camp at...

Smoke Rise Baptist has a great summer camp program. Sent all three of my girls there and they loved it! I think I still have t-shirts from there if you need/want them!
Mary S. replied:
Depending on what you mean by "not too far away" Camp Westminster is in Conyers, about 30 minutes from here. It's a Chrisitan camp with horses, climbing wall/zipline, canoeing, etc. They have daycamp options for younger kids and a 1/2 week. http://www.campwestminster.org/

S/R Baptist Church has a camp. Art Station in downtown Stone Mt. has art camp full/half days.

Gwinnett Young Singers Summer Music Camp is in Lilburn. July 14 - 18, 10 to 4 each day. Classes in Choir, Handbells, Percussion, Orff Instruments. Http://www.gwinnettyoungsingers.com. Call 770-414-5633.
Debbie H. replied:
Someone mentioned Camp Westminster in Conyers - my girls never did the day camp there - many years of overnight summer camp from age 8 to age 15 several weeks each summer - but it's a great place to consider, if not this year -a few years from now. http://www.campwestminster.org/
Katie W. replied:
If Dunwoody isn't considered "too far away," the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta - MJCCA has an awesome selection of day camps. Over 100 options!
Eileen K. replied:
Kimberly Edge Frantz remind me this year when your kids sign up for camp. With their new found love for golf my kids might give it a try this year.
Holly N. replied:
Kingfisher Academy on LaVista does a day camp all summer. My son goes to school there and will do some of their camp this summer. It's pre-K to age 10. They do field trips, art, swimming et al....https://www.facebook.com/KingfisherSchool It's a very small school but a great community and learning environment. Convenient too, a block down from Main Street on LaVista. And I should mention my son's teacher lives in Smoke Rise and will be the older kids group leader this summer.
Ellen W. replied:
My kids loved the half day camp at Main Street School of Music in Tucker.

Don't forget you can join Smoke Rise Bath & Racquet Club. There is a super discount this year for first time members. Go to SRBRC.org to apply for membership.
Hi there, I'm new to smoke rise area. Curious about where parents are sending their children for school. Looking for elementary school for my baby girl. Really love Camp...
Debbie H. replied:
My children are 17 and 20 but we started out at Smoke Rise Elementary for pre-K and Kindergarten and then moved to Mt. Carmel. Moved to Providence Christian Academy when our oldest was moving up to 7 th grade and our youngest was in 4 th grade. Oldest has graduated from Providence and my youngest is finishing her junior year.
Tasha C. replied:
All three of my boys ages 13, 11, and 8 went to Smoke Rise Elementary. My two oldest went preK thru 3 rd and my 8 year old is there now. My two oldest started Greater Atlanta Christian in the 4 th grade. We moved them because we liked the Christian values it taught. They offer Bible class, have Chapel, things like that. We enjoyed Smoke Rise Charter (Elem) and now GAC. Hope this helps.

We sent our daughter to SmokeRise Elementary; she's at Tucker Middle now.

Our daughter goes to Providence Christian in Lilburn. We are very pleased. Welcome by the way.
Jackie S. replied:
Our son attends The Paideia School and has been there from 1 st grade and will be a freshman this year. We are quite satisfied.
Georgia C. replied:
All three of mine went to Smoke Rise Elem., then Tucker Middle. Eldest two went to Tucker High for 3 & 2 years then moved them to Faith Academy in Loganville to finish. Moved youngest to Woodward 3 years ago. BEST move even though she had to struggle the first year due to DeKalb's poor prep in middle school (she got 1 A and 5 C's first year. 1 A, 3 B's and 2 C's 2 nd year. This year she'll finish with 5 A's [1 from summer school] and 2 B's.) Woodward may be expensive and crazy far away, but the KNOW how to teach and in a variety of manners to reach all kinds of learners.

Parkview Christian School in Lilburn. Wonderful school and a great place to grow up. My oldest daughter attended 1-8 th grade and my youngest is in the 4 th grade there now. Awesome nurturing school.
Michele G. replied:
Welcome to the area! I have 3 kids currently enrolled at St. John Neumann Catholic School. My oldest graduated from there two years ago & attends Parkview High now. You do not need to be Catholic to attend SJN. Rates are very reasonable for a private school education (plus there is a religious component as well). It a great school that focuses on the whole child including morals, ethics, faith, academics, and extra curriculum activities if you're interested. Small school so it's not overwhelming. Grades K-8. School is in Lilburn off Tom Smith Rd.
Atlanta Botanical Gardens, Atlanta Zoo, Geogia Aquarium.

Oh Colour Wheel in Decatur.
Lori J. replied:
Oh my son will be at Mason Mill as well! He went last year and we were happy with it (happier than the previous year at Tucker Rec Center).
Lisa K. replied:
Also, there's an AWESOME camp out at the Silverbacks facility in Suwannee that we do every year. Living Social puts out a half price deal sometime in the spring, bringing it to about $100 it is an all sports camp. We have to carpool though - it is FAR!
Holly N. replied:
Tascha, give Kingfisher Academy a try. Their camp is for 10 and younger. But is local (heart of Tucker) small and they do various activities. You can participate weekly ($160 a week). My son goes to school there. We love it. https://www.facebook.com/KingfisherSchool
Anybody know of any boot camps in Tucker? More specifically, I am looking for a FREE boot camp in Tucker. My buddy found one in Buckhead (f3 nation), but they don't do...

Mine is at Mason Mill (not far from Tucker)...Every Tuesday and Thursday at 5:45-6:30. Lots of fun...no fee.
Hi neighbors thank you all so much for the great camp recommendations for our 6yo.!
I've now found out that Eastminster doesn't offer any sort of summer camp for our 2yo...
