whats yer health insurance? if you don't have any, you have until the 15 th to sign up with healthcare.gov
elroypaisley replied:
yeah, healthcare.gov is the way to go, my friend. if you're not getting health care through work or are not working you can get free or very low cost health care. ny state medicaid (if you qualify) includes psychiatric care.

Any psychiatrist worth his salt will not serve the dual purpose of a talk therapist and will require you to be in talk therapy along with their assessment and prescription writing. Psychologist/lscw for weekly visits and psychiatrist for monthly meds. PM me and I can send you the guy I used to see. He was very nice and thoughtful, but way up on 87 and Lex. At least it's close to the train.

I am being a realist here but I would say choose from a list of providers in your health plans network.

I know you're looking for a psych, but if finances really are a huge issue, look into the National Institute for Psychotherapies and Columbia's dept of psych - both for low cost (sub-$30) counseling sessions. Columbia might even be able to hook you up with a real psych. Good luck

call LifeNet to get some information on mental health clinics/psychiatrists in your area - 1-800-LIFENET (1-800-543-3638). Full disclosure: I work in LifeNet's office, but they're an amazing and free resource that can help you find mental health services!

Also, fyi, most psychiatrists refer the actual counseling to a psychologist.

I've used [Dr. Joseph Holmgren](http://josephholmgrenmd.com) to get medicated for depression/anxiety and go elsewhere for talk therapy. He doesn't work with insurance, but charges directly. His fees are as follows (from his website) * The initial evaluation is $250 which includes 3 months of follow up. * Ongoing treatment is $100 per quarter. If quarterly fees are not maintained in a timely fashion, further treatment will require a new evaluation at the standard fee. * All phone calls, emails and video chats are included in the quarterly fees. In addition, the quarterly fee includes one face to face session. Further face to face sessions may require additional payment at a fee of $50. * Paperwork requests, including prior authorizations, are $50. This fee does not guarantee the prior authorization will be approved. Extensive paperwork requests may require additional fees. Simple paperwork requiring a signature or something similar are included in the standard quarterly fees. * HelloHealth, which maintains your medical record, charges a separate fee of $36/year which you are responsible for paying. I haven't paid the HelloHealth fee.. I think he may have changed systems and didn't update his website or something. Hope this helps! He has definitely helped me.

Its in Manhattan, but you should look into the postgraduate center for mental health. They are excellent and charge on a sliding scale.

Can anyone recommend a therapist in Tucson who specializes in eating disorders? A long shot, but I'm desperately trying to avoid picking someone who takes Aetna randomly...

I had a friend who went to Sierra Tucson. Its a treatment center and rehab and they have people who specializes in eating disorders. They do take insurance. They specialize a plan for you and after countless try's my friend recovered with their help. He said he really liked the place and he continues to go to their support groups. You should give them a call or visit their [website](http://www.sierratucson.com)

Monica Kesler is absolutely amazing. She’s helped me more than I can even describe. You must check into her if you’re looking for an eating disorder therapist.

I know a private therapist who does not take insurance, but seeing her over the long-term would be probably in the same price range as co-pays for insurance -- unless you have a really good plan. Her name is Amy Schill and her website is radiantenergyflowing.com.
Amy was a conventional therapist. Then she went through training in TCM and hasn't looked back. She's certified in Genoharmonics, which is a dietary guideline that accounts for many factors including blood type. You get a comprehensive list of foods and focus on the ones that are best for you. Simple, though challenging. I started following it two years ago and shed about 15% of my body weight.
Here's the deal. You don't count calories. You eat when you want to and eat as much as you want to.
I know someone with an eating disorder -- a nasty convoluted knot in her head -- who found her answer in Genoharmonics. She went through several rehabs and saw the best therapists for 20 years and none of it really lasted for her because it wasn't the answer she needed. In a few months of sticking to Genoharmonics, the eating disorder(s) pretty much went away.
I also recommend to you [Caritas Center for Healing](http://caritashealing.com). They have holistic practitioners of many stripes. Definitely see Amy first to get started on Genoharmonics, and if you need other healing modalities, talk to the folks at Caritas.
Good luck.

Hi Jay, Dan's recommendation looks great. Also, with the UofA and Dr. Weil's Integrative Medicine program there, perhaps you can find someone within or an MD graduate from to help give further opinions and care for your Mom. Here's a link to a clinic that the Integrative Medicine center has in Tucson. I've never been there, but I follow Dr. Weil closely and really like his approach and teachings. The website also has Doctors listed that have taken some Integrative Medicine and are practicing in Tucson: http://integrativemedicine.arizona.edu/clinic/index.html

The best I can do is [link you this website](https://therapists.psychologytoday.com/rms/?tr=Hdr_Brand). It lets you search for therapists based on area code, city, state, etc. And look at their qualifications and time practicing. It's a good tool since it allows you to e-mail them or call them (gives you contact info). Just look for a few that look interesting to you and give them a ring and go from there. Remember you don't have to keep seeing the first one you see.
