If by eateries, you mean small, local warungs vs restaurants, I think that most do use MSG (glutamat or vetsin). Maybe you know this because of the unmistakeable MSG headache after a tasty meal?:) In my experience, even if you ask the cook not to put MSG, or even if there is a sign "no MSG," some ingredient is already soaked in it, or it's added to the sambal. My Balinese landlord said they cannot cook without it. If I wanted to be more sure, I would go to a restaurant, like Bali Buda or Earth Cafe as mentioned above.

Best bakery in Ubud? Also for gluten free cake? Thanks!
Noel L. replied:
Warung Schnitzel has amazing GF sweets. Their brownies are to die. Also Daily Baquette has some GF cake, but I've never tried it. If you want morning muffins and whatnot there is a small selection of GF at Bali Buddha. For GF cakes, I special order from Yuliya Yushkevich or Mila Stedronova. In terms of best bakeries, I haven't hit up many, but Caramel and Pyramids of Chi have delicious looking patisserie cases. Kue and Moka are highly rated too. Haven't been to either personally.
Any body know where I find the bakery where I can buy the bread for baget and panini

Daily Baguette shop on Jl Raya (near Jl Bisma) is opening on Monday! Great baguettes and pastries, and I can't choose between their sourdough and Mila Stedronova's - they are both fantastic.
