I do think they are short of incubators at Sanglah hospital... and this is a disgusting state of affairs as it has been going on for decades. I personally know two people who lost their babies at Sanglah, due to not enough incubators.... and we actually saw a cat sleeping in an old incubator in the hospital corridoor at one stage. But that was at least ten years ago. So nothing has changes! How difficult is it to make incubators? They are very simple things....and in the meantime I do think that the information about this couple and their suffering should be spread, and an appeal be made to Rotary to help Sanglah Hospital get their act together... I know many of the doctors have their own private hospitals, but that is no excuse for the public hospital to be so neglected. Sarita

I would offer the same advise as Mark Adnum, Bali to Darwin is cheap. Plus the Darwin hospital specialises in tropical diseases it's also very well equipped as it's the first point of call in case of a disaster overseas. We also (I live in Darwin) have a lot of the same mosquito born diseases so the emergency doctors recognise symptoms quickly and results are quick.

The abovementioned Ubud Health Care are excellent. I have been a patient with them. They can monitor and arrange all aspects for your care including medical and holistic health care. Also bloods can be done there.Speaking good English as do the nursing staff. I found the centres doctors understanding, aware and up to date. They also have specialist doctors working there. Can definately recommend this Centre. Best wishes for your continued health improvements.

Mark N. replied:
Does Ubud Health care also send their bloodwork to PRODIA lab? Or do they do it in house?
Tanya M. replied:
I believe they would send to Prodia as do most medical centres. Dr Krisna there is wonderful. You could get your bloods done direct to Prodia yourself, but personally I would prefer to be under the care of a good doctor whilst here. Of course it is your decisions. I have a few medical problems requiring monitoring but find to have a good doctor for support is great, especially being away from your regular ones. Bring a summary of your medical history with you, it definately helps.
Tanya M. replied:
Yes Mark. Dr Krisna there is wonderful. He is on call also 24 hours for phone consultations as well as being at the clinic. I find him very caring, understanding and totally professional. He also listens to you. Also up to date with medical. Can highly recommend him.

Fairly priced is quite subjective. Any price you're going to pay for medical care in Bali is significantly higher than anywhere else in Indonesia, and sub-par when compared to other Asian cities and International standards. Are your foreign and without insurance? I recommend going to a hospital for both diagnosis and potential treatment, because a lot of doctors that I have experienced in Bali have no idea what they are doing. If you go to a random clinic doctor, even if he gives you the diagnosis of appendicitis, you're still going to need surgery, which would take place at a hospital. Diagnosing it is tricky to begin with, so it is unlikely you would quickly get it at a clinic. A doctor will usually need to do an abdominal exam, urine test, rectal exam, blood work, and an abdominal ultrasound, to rule other things out in the process of confirming a diagnosis. If you're foreign, I would honestly recommend going to Singapore or Bangkok to do all of this if you have that option. BIMC or Sanglah hospital would be the only places I would go in Bali for this.

Go to Ubud Health Center, to doctor: Jorza "Oja" Sepmiko, MD Occupational Health Doctor jorza.sepmiko@yahoo.com. My boyfriend has a severe yoga (!) accident a week ago. This doctor took 2 h30 to do a real check-up, very professional and very kind. We are going there every 3 days now, and I'm happy to say that he is always doing a good job. We are acctually staying in Ubud until Saturday, just in order not to change doctor for the last check-up! Can really recommend him. Good luck:)
