There was a women's store called The Boulevard next to DiscoMart in Milwaukie. As I recall, there was a cashier there (Ken, maybe?) who went to Fred Meyer on 82 nd and King Rd. when DiscoMart became something else, then he went to Fred Meyer on Johnson Creek when it opened. He rang up our groceries for many, many years.
Jeff C. replied:
Disco Mart was Woodstock IGA for a while before it became a Thriftway

Jim Paul...Yankee and Rebel were our playmates when we lived by Sunnyside School .. Marge made either "scrambled eggs"for us one time ... or as she told us..."pig brains"...have never been sure which they were.haha!!

Annamarie Holland Daniels ; before the location across from Ainsworth GS became Spring St. Cafe, it was called Miss Nance's. Originally a 'fountain', (dating back to the speak-easy/dance club in a house off the trolley line down Spring?), the underside of the counter was thick w/ ABC gum. Adjacent was another Stohecker's location. (50's-60's)
Tom S. replied:
Actually we called it "Portland Heights Grocery", it was in between Mrs Nance's and Portland Heights Dry Cleaners at the end.

Lombard Food Center on North Denver & Interstate. The Okasaki family owned & operated for decades. They were great people who knew and cared a lot about their customers.

I played little league baseball for Strohecker's in the early 60 s. Went to St. Thomas More grade school up by Council Crest on Patton Road.

After my dad died, my mom dated a nice "young" man that grew up next to the Strohecker boys and said they were very fun and wild! Went to the amusement park that is now Council Crest. Fun!

Sheila K. replied:
Shannon - amazing what you are doing! Tracy A. Myerson will have to advise on where she'd like people to focus - if it is New West area, my suggestion would be along E Columbia from Starbucks (North) to Take 5 (South ... which is Alberta Street) - the sighting being at Thrifty's. I'd also like to suggest a few blocks East and West of E Columbia (residential areas).
Sheila K. replied:
Took a detour on my way home from work today and stopped off at the New West Thrifty's ... They do have cameras on the inside but not outside ... Customer Service will check with the building management to see if they have outside cameras and if they do - will ask them to check the footage from yesterday morning. They took a bunch of the mini-posters and will post in the store. I also dropped off mini-posters (and spoke with folks) at the TD Bank, ICBC insurance office and Take 5 cafe. They will all keep an eye out. I still plan on doing a walk-about this area on the weekend - so please anyone interested in meeting up to help with searching this area - let me know. Come on Levi - let us know where you are!!! - and if it is you in New West - come out for a walk when I'm here watching for you!!! <3
