Wednesday afternoons there is a local lady who sells eggs by the post office in St. Helens. They are very flavorful, so I know her chickens are eating bugs and greens in addition to feed. Also the feed store sells local eggs too. They would also be a resource for locating a farmer with beef for sale. The Columbia County Extension Office might have connections for you too. Two years ago there was also an organic coop in town. I don't know how to find the lady who organized that. The extension office might know.

Does anyone know where I can find lard at local grocery stores? Just looking for some good ol lard to make good beans and other treats. If you have any insights please...

I like the [Epic](https://epicbar.com/animal-oils-detail/28) pork lard. Fred Meyer, Whole Foods and Trader Joe's have it. It's pretty tasty and I think it's origins are a little less suspect than the giant tubs of Armour lard.

Pretty much any supermarket. [Walmart](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Armour-Lard-64-Oz/10449262).
susiederkinsisgross replied:
They don't have this at Food Fight! for sure.
jrmonaghan replied:
I've seen it at the big grocery stores, Thriftway, Winco, etc. If that doesn't work, I know my local butcher shop sells it (and probably all of them do). Here's some from [New Seasons](https://www.newseasonsmarket.com/our-products/fatworks-pure-lard/)

I know it's not exactly what you were asking but rendering your own lard is pretty easy and I have had good experiences getting pork fat for free from the meat department at local grocers.

I don't know of any grocery stores that DON'T sell lard. Maybe the vegan one wouldn't, but lard is a pretty standard grocery store item. It's frequently next to the shortening in the cooking oils/fats section.
lovetron99 replied:
Safeway has it. It's typically back by the meat department.
