I was really satisfied with mod at tiger lily. I think he does mostly Asian designs (dragons, koi, etc.), but I was really happy with the black piece he did on my elbow, which I've heard is not easy to work with. I'll try to post a pic soon, as I'm in class right now.

I had a good experience at [Captain Jacks](http://www.captainjackstattoo.com/) on Hawthorne - I had a very simple, fairly small black design done there a few years ago. I've also heard great things about Tiger Lily, as was already mentioned.

I've had black and white work done at Infinity up on Lombard and at Black Hole in Beaverton. Both were very clean, nice and professional, but if I had to chose I'd go with Black Hole. Jay did my tattoo at Black Hole and was awesome. He even touched up a few things on the other work I'd had done without a problem. I'm happy with the work I got done at both places, but Black Hole went above and beyond.

I can't speak specifically to the quality of his black and white work, but I just got a tattoo at Infinity Tattoo, and the [guy](http://www.infinitytattoo.com/sean_lanusse.html) did an excellent job. Really clean line work and a good knowledge of shading and contrasts.

I am a big fan of Optic Nerve, but your compatibility with any artist or tattoo parlor depends on what style you like and what style they give. With the insanely strict Oregon tattooing laws almost any shop will be safe and clean (although I would always use your better judgment and also ask about their sterilization practices). So it's really down to who does work that you like. My advice would be to check out the portfolios of multiple local artists, a lot of them will be on tattoo parlor websites.

Otherwise, there's a place by the Supermall in Auburn, Action Tattoo, that would be cheaper than anything in Seattle. I got the tat behind my ear done there.

If you want really great art, go to Bad Kitties in Newberg. It's closer than Seattle.
