Any Optometrist should hand this info over. My wife has never had one refuse to.

Wizard Optical claims to have the cheapest eye exam in Nova Scotia.
Lord_Nuke replied:
Cole Harbour Optometric had no problem. Four-ish years ago, I had to push a little (but it was still a pleasant interaction) to get it, but now more recently they offered it up front.

Try Butler Opticians in Halifax shopping centre
her-tea-leaves replied:
I'm sure all of them give you the prescription. Most prescriptions don't have the PD though.
mcpasty666 replied:
Pupillary Distance or PD is what OP needs that optometrists don't always provide. I've been told they won't provide it (some office on Lacewood a few years ago) or don't measure that unless you're buying glasses there (Costco Dartmouth last year). If you can't find anyone on here, try Walmart. I've been told they do it if you ask, but don't have first hand experience.
24nm replied:
I've always gotten my prescription printout at the end of an exam. It should not be a problem.

They are required to give you your prescription if you ask, as it is considered a medical record and you are entitled to your own medical records. However PDs are NOT considered medical records (I don't know why), and so they are not required to tell you. This is what most of them refuse to give you, even if asked outright. I looked into this extensively and even tried to take it up with the optometry licensing body, because it is an out and out scam. It basically deprives those who can least afford it. I have heard that Dr Dobblesteyn (Insight Optometry) and Dr Lang (Lang Optometry) will give you both prescription and PD number. Once you have your PD it will never change so you are set for online ordering for life.

Wizard optical is cheap. Don't mention you plan to look around for frames cos the guy there is a little.... well he won't be stoked and will probably turn rude if you do. But they just want your business. Cheap cheap eye exams tho! and may as well take a look at the frames cos the selection is not horrendous.
Musekal replied:
Save your money on buying glasses locally. Go to zennioptical.com or clearlycontacts.ca

Wizard is the cheapest for exams and glasses, trust me. However, do not mention buying from a site. Just don't. I know they get offended and that makes it all awkward. The doc gives you your script, which you are then free to do as you wish with. I just bought my glasses there ($90 a pair or $150 for two) and they didn't give me back my script. I was told it would come back with my glasses, but it didn't. PD is easy to measure but if you're accidentally off, you're just as good going to buy reading glasses at Shoppers.
Would love a referral for an opthamologist and/or an optometrist in Ojai. Thanks.
