I have been taking my pets (both cats and dogs) to Caring Hands Animal Hospital since I moved to the area in 2000. They have always been wonderful.

Mapleshade animal hospital in Dale City. All of the vets there are fantastic, but Dr. Smith came up with a solution to my dog's problems after a lot of trial and no results with other vets.

Stonewall Vet in Gainesville is great.

Cherrydale Veterinary in Arlington. We have a bulldog, so we are at the vet A LOT. They’re super responsive, both by email and phone.

Deepwood Veterinary Clinic is on Ordway Road in Centreville right on the border with PWC. That’s pretty South West, depending on where you’re starting.

McLean Animal Hospital has been amazing to us for the 9 years we’ve been taking our pets there. We’ve had emergencies (fun fact: cats eat dryer sheets because they contain animal fats), cat cancer, and all the regular care and they have been competent and kind at every turn. Dr. Salkeld is the best vet we’ve ever worked with. Dr. Hardison is great as well. It’s McLean so it probably is a little more expensive than some others but it’s a spending category where we feel ok paying more to get more.

Pet Medical Center of Springfield is great.

Leesburg Veterinary Hospital off of James Monroe. They are consistently voted best vet in Loudoun County. They have taken care of cats and dogs for me. This includes an energetic 100+ lbs German Shepherd so they should be able to care for your Giant Breed. They knew all the best foods for him when he was a growing pup and now as an adult. They are knowledgable, let you know all the facts/options, and compassionate. Bonus points for already having a COVID-19 safe drop off procedures pretty early on too. https://leesburgvet.com

I like caring hands. They have multiple locations too.

Caring Hands in Merrifield is solid.

Before I lost them to old age I took my two dogs to Pender Vet. They were great with emergencies as well as the routine stuff. I think they also deal with exotic animals (not Joe). They have two locations, and the one by Westfields has a large boarding facility with a variety of accommodations at different price points.

Old Mill Vet. In Leesburg, VA is a fantastic practice and Dr. Hussion is great, along with all the other team members!

[Merrifield Animal Hospital](http://www.merrifieldanimalhospital.com). Small practice (4 veterinarians); Chief vet Dr. Bowlby is absolutely great.

Surprised nobody here has mentioned Clarendon Animal Care! I worked there in an admin position a couple years ago and I still take my cat there now (with no discount or anything lol) - they're the best. They aren't the cheapest vet out there but they are really, really good at what they do. They have a total of 6 vets I believe, all at their single location in Clarendon (and yes there is free parking behind their building for their clients so you don't have to deal with crappy street parking lol).
Clients are all super happy and they have amazing online reviews. Bad reviews have almost always just been from people upset about the price, because CAC vets tend to go with the best treatment and not the least expensive alternative. Lmk if you have questions about them.

Ohana in Bristow/Gainesville is GREAT! They have taken care of several pets in my family since they opened and always very compassionate when I run in with my dog in seizure crisis and rush us right through! They've taken care of us as two pets passed on and were amazing. They have several vets and everyone is just wonderful. :D

Catoctin Vet in Leesburg has been great to us. They treat my coworker’s Danes there too and they’ve had really good experience. Prices seem fair overall.

Go to yelp.com and search on holistic vets and your town name - i just did it for your state and found many. I would start with a holistic vet.

I second what Angela said. Find a veterinary dermatologist. We were very happy with Dr. Rebecca Westermeyer at Springfield Referral Center. We found out our cat was allergic to dust, trees and grass; basically the planet. She made a monthly injection for him and his last four years were basically itch-free.
