Does anyone know an ophthalmologist that you highly recommend? Thanks so much!!
Jane T. replied:
It depends on what you're getting treatment for. For anything besides retina Virginia Eye Consultants has some of the best Drs on the east coast (Dr Scoper for cataract/lasik surgery, Dr Shepherd for cornea, Dr Okeke for glaucoma and Dr Jole for anything cosmetic). If it's for retina issues I'd recommend Dr Wagner of Wagner-Mandell ophthalmology.
Megan M. replied:
Dr. Cheezum on Volvo Pkwy.
Sherrie P. replied:
Dr. Crouch and Associates in Norfolk., VA. They have been my ophthalmologists since 1976!!!
Gale M. replied:
Dr. Crouch was Sarah's doctor for many years. We hated leaving him.

Penney S. replied:
My Mom did too.. Cataracts and Glaucoma surgery.....I had lasik to correct my astigmatism.. Thankfully that is still in place and I shouldn't need glasses after the surgery. The big problem is a LOT of the great doctors have stopped taking Tricare Prime...
Cami G. replied:
Dr. Peter Mitrev....he's a neighbor of mine
Amy V. replied:
Tricare Prime & Tricare Standard are reimbursed the same for most professions, though probably not for primary care and similar because HMO set ups are different for them. It's collecting the patient share that practitioners complain about in meetings I've been in. We had Prime while David was in the Navy and have continued to have it in retirement. We've never had any issues. There are plenty of competent DR's who take Prime. Penney, Beach Eye Care (Neatrour) takes Tricare Prime. They do everything!
Christine W. replied:
Dr. Atlas is the best ! He did Duane when he was 21 so he has been doing them awhile not sure about ins I can check tomorrow !
Tiffany D. replied:
Amen. Tricare Standard is the way to go. No authorizations needed. And we picked up a Tricare supplement to cover the rest!
