Any apartment hunter or Realtor recommendations for Oakland/Berkeley area? Or buildings/management companies? My gf and I will be moving to the Bay area to start new...

In Berkeley try to stay away from the buildings managed by "Everest Properties" or any other management that eventually leads back to Everest.

Craigslist is the main method for finding housing here IMO. You might consider finding a temporary housing situation so that you'll have plenty of time to hunt. Housing can be rather competitive but I think this time of year it's a little less so

There are a few newer apartment complexes near Jack London Square. Stay away from International in Oakland for sure haha. You might want to check out some spots in Emeryville since that might be central for you both. They have some condos at Bay St Emeryville that pretty much sits on top of an outdoor mall.

the cost of living in the midwest doesnt even compare to the bay area, it is one of the most expensive places to live. for 1800 you could get a decent apartment (maybe 2 bedrooms) but you are going to have to be careful where you choose. walnut creek is really expensive to live in as well as most of the cities between that and SF (lafayette, moraga, orinda) until you get out past the tunnel towards berkeley and oakland and stuff. i would reccomend concord or martinez, they have decently priced housing as well as a centralized location and many bus stations as well as two BART stations.

Check out Uptown or Lake Merritt area on Craigslist. Lots of Realtors actually list their postings ON craigslist.

The best resource I know for researching general home sales, new rentals and neighborhoods is sf.curbed.com . They are a blog not a realty company, but they often post comparisons or apts for rent, or houses for sale in by neighborhood. I mostly read it to gawk at 10+ million dollar sky mansions, but I've read a bunch of rental advice there as well.

Do you have any pets? Are you opposed to living next to a punk band?

FoxFire property management in oakland is great. They manage a bunch of properties but 315 park view terrace. was the one I lived in. It's a great apt. and is pretty big so you can usually find a vacancy if you keep at it.

Lake Merritt is great. So close to a bunch of bart stops, china town and downtown. Check out Stephens property management. They recently took over my building and are pretty chill. My building actually has units available. Pm me if you're interested.
