Fred Estaire Dance Studio in Elmwood has by far been the best 'gym' I have ever joined and I'm a life long gym rat. I am challenged in every way, and find new muscles all the time. I have never had more fun. The trainers are AMAZING.

Rugged fitness (www.areyourugged.com), but only if you want to sweat. You can get a free workout session to see if you like it. Small classes, very challenging, full body workout in 50 mins 2 or 3 times a week.

Hi...I will tell a little story...i started my road to fitness...decided to go solo on my weight training...following folks who's advise was good..Down 85 lbs, feeling great...decided to up my arm weights to 10 lbs...RIP! did something amazingly painful to my shoulder (MRI done, waiting for report) and cannot rotate my arm outward. So best advise...go to a great trainer. I do not know him personally but if you read about Glenn Marcella at the Playground, you will see he is a highly experienced personal trainer who owns this fitness center. Hind site being 20/20 probably not a bad idea to have gone with someone who would probably not have allowed a tendon to snap on you or a muscle to rip! Just my two cents worth. http://www.thefitplayground.com/

Depends on what you're looking for. I re-joined Big Sky over a year ago due to the classes they offer. You get a lot for the monthly fee.

Anytime Fitness in BC. Open 24/7. Clean, friendly. $39/mo
Looking for an inexpensive venue for a family square dance for a group. Churches with a gym or area for do-si-do-ing would be great ;)

Perhaps try contacting St James's Episcopal Church on Farmington in Ctr. They have 2 large spaces - 1 carpeted and 1 that is not. # is 860-561-9621. Office Mgr is Cheryl.

Not sure about the price but Our Lady of Fatima has a large hall and they rent out and also have a smaller room in the community center. It's in Hartford right over the WH border on Kane st
Looking for feedback on the NYSC in Blue Back and also to hear if anyone has been to the new Blast gym location - I believe they moved recently... Thank you!
Cathy F. replied:
There is The Playground, a unique way for physical fitness. Glenn Marcella is the trainer/owner and had a great rep. Then there is LA fitness in Farmington...really great place to go to as well!

Akua Ba Fitness on Talcott Road near Home Depot. Awesome new facility. Excellent trainers who are serious, warm, encouraging and fun.
Lisa O. replied:
Jennifer Van Sickle, they neglect to tell you about the $150 initiation fee and the $50 per year renewal. Extremely nasty staff and arrogant as well.
Amy B. replied:
The Mandell JCC is your best bet. The facility is outstanding and very well maintained. The pricing is simple and the staff are very customer focused. I worked out their 150 minutes or more a week and my family has been members since 1990.
Marta G. replied:
I've heard great things about Akua Ba but need something with child care.
Careen W. replied:
We used to belong but changed to Anytime Fitness. Price is better and parking is easier.
Kim S. replied:
I used to belong to NYSC but was paying $68/month plus parking cost. It was ok but not good enough for the cost. I now belong to Big Sky and the classes are much better. I have also heard that it is not too organized lately.
Jennifer S. replied:
Marta Goldman-I go to Big Sky in Newington, and it takes me 10-15 minutes to get there, depending on time of day and traffic.
