I need a veterinarian. I had a nightmarish experience with the groomer at a local -- recommended -- one, and now have an injured dog. I need a gentle, caring vet who is...

OMG! Just saw what happened. Absolutely no excuse. I am so sorry for your precious one. Deb give me a call at 806-0152. I have some information to share about some of the suggestions above.

Melissa G. replied:
yes, with my medical conditions the first thing i have to do when i move is find decent doctors. i have medicare with a coventry advantage plan so i'm not sure how i could refer you to anyone. my PCP is Dr. Richa Sharma over at Via Christi in the old Wesley clinic building on Murdock. I love her, and in general have had good experiences with most people within that group.
Deb S. replied:
Maggie Mae is better. The cut is clotted. The new vet said it could still break open if she starts digging at it, or shaking her head too much--which she is--so I'm trying to let her rest as much as possible. Fortunately, 8-year-old dogs like to sleep.
Dana S. replied:
Glad to hear all is well. Again Seneca Vet Clinic is just across the river and Christy and Ellen, staff, have become good friends. The have always care for my 18&19 year old muts since I got them, and fortunately I have had very few problems to deal with. Just an FYI, are you familiar with our Emergency Vet Clinic and Specialty Hospital on S. Washington?
Diana T. replied:
Deb I would suggest checking if Dr. Yang takes your insurance. I've gone to him for years. He is also very easy to get in to see. I normally get in the day I call.
Diana T. replied:
I highly recommend Wingert Animal Hospital on South Seneca. A little bit of a drive but so worth it for your babies. Also, they don't charge an arm and a leg.
Margaret H. replied:
Ahhhhh poor baby. That's really horrible. I don't know if they groom, but Caring Hearts Veterinary Clinic up on Mapy, a block or two east of West street is really good. Dr. Gerry Frazier is very gentle. We've taken our cats there for years and even took my mother-in-law's dog there (she lived in Winfield). She is really a great vet! Her phone is 942-4275.
Diana T. replied:
Sorry for the goof. Attached a link about Dr. Brooks. You can search more on internet for further details.
Diana T. replied:
We've gone to Wingert Animal Hospital since I was 5 and now I'm 53. Fred Wingert has retired but his son and daughter-in-law are both vets and have taken over practice. They also, have a third vet in the practice.
Deb S. replied:
Thanks, all. I took her to Companion Animal Hospital, because a friend I've known and loved since Kindergarten referred me. The vet there took one look and said it looked like they caught the tip of her ear with clippers. I found another cut on her hindquarters. She has an antibiotic to prevent infection now, and the wound has finally clotted. The vet at the original groomer had the office manager call me in response to my FAX instead of doing it himself. He insisted her wound was nothing more than a "paper cut."::gasp:: They refunded the price of the grooming, and I filed a complaint with AAHA against the clinic. If the vet had been ethical and taken responsibility for what happened instead of lying and trying to cover for an incompetent groomer, I might have forgiven, but not now. On my way to BBB.
Diana T. replied:
You go girl! Protect others and their loved ones from potential harm. I had other concerns about some of the other suggestions but I have not heard anything good or bad about Companion Animal Hospital so that is a good thing I'm thinking. At least nothing bad. Hope healing goes quickly.
Lynn L. replied:
I am so sorry this happened to your fur baby!!! I would be so mad. They need to pay all vet bills your have over this horrible neglect . I use Rainbow Valley Veterinary Clinic in Derby, ks. It is a little bit of a drive. But I trust them with Gracie.
Dana S. replied:
Groomer- I use Tiana or Crystal at Dog Patch Grooming over on West St. About 20 yrs now. Tiana is booked weeks ahead.

Virginia Q. replied:
Dr. Zane Johnson at Seneca Vet Clinic is amazing. So is his staff.
Nancy D. replied:
Dr. Zane Johnson has been our family vet for over 25 years. He and his staff are top-notch and caring for our fur babies.
Deb S. replied:
I was trying not to.::sigh:: Indian Hills Animal Clinic. She came home from a simple grooming appointment looking like this. She's an 8 1/2 year-old, very gentle standard poodle who is used to grooming, so there was no excuse for nipping off the end of her ear.
Deb S. replied:
Holly, I had trouble finding Dr. Brooks online. Does he have a website?
Holly M. replied:
Dr.John Brooks. He's a strictly mobile vet so we like the convenience plus the girls love him!
Hannah W. replied:
I use the Seneca Vet Clinic. He's amazingly caring with our beloved furry kids and always gives my dogs a dose of extra love with every visit!

Sorry to hear that! Dr Monica Moore at Herndon Vet saved my dogs life 5 years ago with an emergency surgery. She is an amazing and caring vet! As is everyone who works there.
Deb S. replied:
Thanks, Melissa. I'm still sort of doctor shopping for myself, too. I don't have a lot of options in Wichita with my insurance plan. Specialists are decent, but PCPs seem hard to come by. I like Companion Animal Hospital, but it is farther than I'd like to go for routine care.
Who's a good veterinarian for Bulldogs in the Wichita area? Looking for one that will be a good fit, and really "understands" the breed to start a new relationship with...

Mulvane Animal Clinic is the most Bulldog experienced in the area.:)

We go to El Paso Animal Clinic in Derby they are great with our bullies
Roger M. replied:
If you want to come a little further up here at Marion, Spur Ridge Vet Hospital, Brandon Krause has been great with all our dogs.
Does anyone know of a good veterinarian close by that's caring and won't gouge you for services? Our dog doesn't like to travel in the cars so we're trying to find...
Melissa A. replied:
We have used the Pet Haven vet for years.

De. Zane Johnson at Seneca Vet has cared for our fur babies for about 30 years. He and the staff are skilled and caring.
Richard H. replied:
Seconding Andrea's endorsement of Caring Hearts. We were with Dr. Gary Pottorff for many years and continued with the practice when he sold it to Dr. Gerry Fraizer. She is great with our cats and dogs.
