Have you checked with your insurance provider for doctors in network? That would give you a good place to start. If the provider doesn't have a list, your benefits manager should. I've never had an issue getting a new doctor, and never had to fill out a survey and wait 48 hours. I just started seeing a new GP last June. Dr. Grayce Arnold in Honewood. Mayfair Medical, I believe.

I had mental health issues most of my life and had very bad experiences with psychologist and psychiatrist in my teen years. Two of my children deal with mental health issues now and it took me a year to find a doctor I was comfortable with. Dr. Faber is in Helena/Alabaster. We have used him going on three years now. He is so wonderful. He recognized that my son has high functioning autism and we didn’t know it, we just knew he struggled with things. He prescribed detailed testing done on our son that answered a lot of questions and verified his autism. My daughter has clinical depression and Dr Faber stays on top of her medication and is there for anything urgent that comes up. For counselors I recommend Cherie with Warrior Wellness Group (she has helped my daughter tremendously) or Jay Pesek with Pesek Counseling.

Sparks and Favor at Brookwood Women's Medical Center. All of the doctors are amazing, but I highly recommend Dr. Stradtman, she's amazing! The doctors at Sparks and Favor helped me have two beautiful baby boys after my daughter was stillborn... When I was pregnant with my daughter I used the doctors at Shelby... Needless to say that we changed doctors when we got pregnant with our 2 nd child..... Definitely use Brookwood!

I'd always heard great things about Dr. Ricketts, so a couple of years ago I thought I'd give him a try. Called & got an appt. only to show up & be told that he wasn't accepting any more patients, but one of his "associates" would be glad to see me. I think the little "associate" was fresh out of school & his residency. He seemed pretty nervous & not too sure of himself. I was nice and polite with him, but I never went back again. Ricketts' office was new & ultra modern, but not the cleanest. The receptionists were unfriendly & never made eye contact, I was not impressed. Not surprised at all to hear he's long gone.

I like Dr. Patel at BHC Pelham. Right across from the Publix at the tank farm exit. There's also an urgent care doctor there later in the evening and on Saturdays in case you need to see a doctor when she's not available. I really like that option as it keeps me from having to go to the doc-in-the-box if I get sick on the weekend, and my primary dr will still have all of my records since it's part of the same office.

I have seen the physician's assistant at Snyder/Smitherman, but you don't have to if you don't want to. I've seen her twice…once like her, once didn't, to??? I've heard good things about Kanatani, also. I recently went to the Urgent Care in Pelham and like it there, too..some people use them all the time.

Dr Bryan McClelland..SUPERIOR service, his staff is wonderful and is a GREAT dr. I thought id never find a dr as good as the one I had before I moved here 8 years ago, and found him. As far as I know, no waiting list for new patients, and no matter what he gets you in quick. takes al kinds of insurance too. I called one morning at 11 (that was as early as I could get my sick butt outta bed) and they got me in at 1 on the same day!! I was with Dr Turner for several years, but having to put off everything else for the whole day got to be irritating. Going in for a 7:45 rpm appt and still be waiting 4 hours.later was a bit much. Now I use Dr. Price in Clanton and my wait time is rarely more th an 15 minutes.
