Mike, you're a lawyer, black captoes are kind of expected, right? Noble Schoenmaker in Delft sells Loake; their 1880 line is properly made in England and less than 300 eur. You can't go too wrong with Goodyear-welted English-made shoes in that price range. Sir Max seems to carry Alden and Crockett & Jones, but that might be pushing your budget. I've heard good things about Meermin but I think you'd have to order them from Spain. But what you really should do is take a trip over to London and have some bespoke Edward Green's made.
