Looking for a new endocrinologist-- just found out mine is leaving the practice. Any suggestions.?
Kelly M. replied:
Dr. Kathleen Prendergast across from BWMC. They never have a wait time and are very nice and thorough. She takes the time to listen to you. It is part of the U of MD medical system.
Cheryl B. replied:
I go to Dr. Wexler at Washington Hospital Center. I would NOT recommend Annapolis Endocrinology Associates.
Helen G. replied:
Dr. Kristin Flammer, 300 Hospital Dr., Glen Burnie, 410-787-4940. A very nice, thorough lady. BWMC
I think someone asked this before but I can't seem to find it. Can anyone recommend a good Endocrinologist? Please don't mention any doctor that is with Annapolis...

Dr. Friend was recommended to me, but I haven't seen him yet.
Jennifer K. replied:
Thank you. I called Dr. Michele and she can't see me until June 30 th! Dr. Friend is with the same practice but he retired. She's the only Endocrinologist at that practice now. I booked an appointment with her but am going to keep looking to see if I can get in somewhere else sooner.

I originally tried the Annapolis Endocrinology Assoc on Forbes St . My opinion they were the worse group of Dr & staff I ever dealt with. I am now going to a Dr Flammer in Glen Burnie.

Hated Annapolis Endocrinology. No consistency with practitioner. Seeing Marla Springs at the practice at AAMC. Love her. Seeing for Diabetes
Good Morning FB Peeps-- I need a recommendation for an Endocrinologist in Calvert or the Annapolis area. Thanks in advance!
Audrey S. replied:
Hi I don't know what kind of doctor that is, but can't you get a referral from your doctor at Calvert family practice.
DeAnna C. replied:
Dr Julie O'Keefe, she is fantastic! She is at Calvert Internal!
Sherie B. replied:
Katherine Heileg. (Sp) is also at Calvert internal. I like her.
Jennifer B. replied:
Dr. O'Keefe. She has the big picture Robin.
Jessica T. replied:
She's hard to get into bit Dr Julie O'Keefe is amazing... Thankfully don't need to see her anymore but she was always my most fav doc.
Robin D. replied:
Sounds like I need to make a call to Calvert Internal to see Dr. O'Keefe. Thanks everyone for the feedback!
Betty L. replied:
I too have heard that O'Keefe is the best in Calvert, but is VERY difficult to get into see. There is an ALL WOMEN's practice (Anne Arundel Endocrinology) at the medical center that I would highly recommend. I have seen Dr. Bowen-Wright, but have heard great things about the other doctors in the practice.
Melissa G. replied:
I go to Kathy Helig at Calvert internal and really like her. I've been insulin dependent since 8 th grade.
Any recommendations for an endocrinologist in the area, or a thyroid-savvy GP? Preferably a young doctor who would have kept up on the latest research for levels and...
Erin C. replied:
I strong recommend staying AWAY from Annapolis Endocrinology Associates, especially Dr. Cantero. They disregarded the latest guidelines on treatment of thyroid nodules which led to "over-treatment" and caused me to assume risks that were not recommended by the newest guidelines (this assessment was confirmed by the endo I switched to this week). Dr. Cantero in particular I found to be defensive, dismissive and, on one occasion, verbally combative/abusive. She does not seem to like questions or patients that read the internet and she will stoop to gaslighting. I have not found a good alternative in Annapolis. This week I switched to Dr. Laura Cowen at MedStar in Georgetown. She used to live in Annapolis and be part of the practice I left. She's young, sharp, clearly likes her patients and enjoys her work, feels like a real partner who is not threatened by a patient with questions, concerns and thoughts of their own. She's well worth the drive and uses the "patient portal" system as much as she can if it will help minimize the drive for those of us coming from further way (like to discuss lab results and change dosages -- the other groups requires a full appointment just to discuss results).
Sara D. replied:
I agree with them too... try John Hopkins endocrinology...
Caitlyn J. replied:
Thank you everyone, and particularly thank you Erin! I've called Dr. Cowen.
