Can anyone recommend an AC repair service that isn't a total crook? Also if your AC repair man is a crook, can you warn me of him?

Southeast Heating and Air is my recommendation. As for one to avoid, I'd say One Hour, but most people know that.

STAY AWAY from Home 360. Dude didn't know shit and in 4 minutes of being in my attic, said I needed to spend 9 k on a new unit. I went with AccuTemp. Turns out I just needed a cleaning which was like $90.

My sister in law and a friend of mine work for 1 hour air. He's worked on my system a few times and always tells me what's wrong before he touches it, and is straight to the point. No BS. I would definitely say go with Rebel or Ram if 1 hour won't work. I've heard lots of great things about them.

I know the proprietors of Baton Rouge Air through a friend, and my day job. I like them as a customer, they are regularly easy to deal with and understanding of *real life.* I called them out to service two 40-year old exchangers. Their technician was honest and hard-working. Part of the service was to remove and clean the inside blower, drip pan, coils, etc. The unit was built into the walls. Kid spent hours trying to get it out. On the phone with his peers, asking for advice. I told him to take a break and go service the unit next door. Had that one done in half an hour. I like to think that I also understand *real life,* so I told him that it's okay if he just cleans as much as he can reach - I wasn't in the mood for completely disassembling the exchanger. It's old, who knows what would break while taking it apart. Anyway, their yearly service schedule, which is $186/unit, covers two inside/outside cleanings, drain clearing, and 10% discount on repairs (whatever that part is worth, meh to me really). And this tech was pretty committed to getting all this done at that flat rate, and would have done it over the course of another few hours if I hadn't told him to just do a "good enough" job. A little background in that a decade ago, I worked a summer and fall for Rebel Heating and Air doing new construction and residential repairs. But, by now they probably have had enough turnover (and aging) that I can't really comment on their service, positive or negative. As you can imagine from the name of the company (and logo), the owning family is/was comprised mainly of good old boys.

Highland does good honest work. Rebel does great on repairs bot don't buy new from them.

Ram Air did honest work for me a few years ago. I thought I needed a new compressor, but a capacitor had burned out. They easily could've told me anything at all was wrong. I was ready to buy a whole new unit cause it had been making weird noises for a while and I'd had problems with it the year before, and it ended up being a $220 fix.
