Hey, gym rat friends: My trainer wants me to use a protein supplement, but I'm having a hell of a time finding one without aspartame or sucralose. Any recommendations?
Rhi E. replied:
I use Clif Builder protein bars for a supplement. I had a great deal of trouble finding one I could eat regularly without getting that whey protein nausea, but this one seems to hit the mark for protein balance (whey/soy) and palatable taste. If you're looking for a powder/drink mix, it might be a tough one.
Brad S. replied:
I know what you mean - people who really don't like them say it tastes like metal. I'll say "not really", but if you're hypersensitive to it it might be really noticeable. They *do* sell singles at Vitamin Shoppe, cold in the cooler, so if you buy one and it sucks you're only out $2 (or give it to Eddie).

Garden of Life Raw Meal is an all natural protein powder you can put into a fruit and spinach smoothie - it is, ummm... a bit of an "acquired" taste... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0031JK95S/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Food or beveridge form? The only one I've ever "tried" (though I was just eating it as a hiking snack) is Cliff Builder Bars...Not too bad, but I like their regular cliff bars better...

I'm a big fan of non-whey protein powder. And this stuff has fruit and vegetable powders, but still tastes good. Can't say enough good things about it. http://www.juiceplus.com/content/JuicePlus/en/buy/juice-plus--complete-variety.html
Looking for a gym that has an indoor track and ideally a pool, but also doesn't cost a ton of money. I'm guessing I'm asking for too much. But being semi-new to the area...
Conspiracy__ replied:
Where are you? A single rate at the ymca should be around your price range. If you can show financial hardship they will apply a sliding scale
AtomicManiac replied:
The Jewish Community Center has those things. I don't believe you have to be jewish to become a member.
dataflux replied:
YMCA usually has both, and will subsidizes your membership based on income.

HPER, the rec building at UNO, has a 200 m indoor track, 2 weight rooms, 4+ gyms, several racquetball courts, an Olympic sized pool, rock climbing and equipment rental. Memebership is around $40/month or you can do day passes for like $7.

I used to go to elite on N 102 nd st by the west roads mall. I paid about $35 a month. It has an indoor track and swimming pool. Not sure what the rates are now that they sold to genesis tho
Vmckim replied:
For the record Genesis kept trying to get me to join and i talked them down to $35 a month. Maybe try haggling.

IF you live in the Bellevue School District, [the Lied Activity Center can be reasonably priced](https://www.bellevuepublicschools.org/vnews/display.v/ART/50 de145522 ce5). Those outside the Bellevue School District boundries are subject to higher priced rates.

IF you are a senior citizen, look at the Senior place in Council Bluffs called The Center. They have a pool and you can find at times a large gym size room to run in. IF just walking indoors, the outer hallways do nicely. Membership varies by income and they have a free week trial. You do need to check in at the front desk each visit. - - - Separate from that - Watch TV for some promotions frequently for various places.
