Ok, I am now willing to see a migraine specialist neurologist about my migraines. Has anyone had experience with a migraine specialist neurologist they would recommend...
Brandon M. replied:
I have gone months without soft drinks and still had these migraines and kidney stones. My eyes are very light sensitive but it is not my eyes, at least according to 3 different eye doctors including Dr Shaefer(sp?). Mine present something like this Click below to see the animation http://www.migraine-aura.com/site/content/e27891/e27265/e26585/e49268/e49334/e64437/GR_Animation1_en.gif But eventually it blacks out and closes in. After my vision returns and normalizes the incredible pain begins.
Michael G. replied:
Ive had them since 6 years old...Dr.Frank Thomas at Simon-Williamson has helped give me my life back...Dr. Thomas suffers from them as well so he approaches migraines from a personal place....I was in a study and it showed that migraines for me started in my heart...so with a oral med daily that helps my bp...fluid...valve...etc....I may average 3 a year now where before several a week...to the point my left tear duct would bleed from the pressure....I have imitrex/phenagren shots when I need them.....if you wanna chat call me! Hope you feel better bro!

Apparently Dianne Counce is the local legend of choice. I called and was informed that even though my insurance does not require a referral, she does, along with the other doctor needing to fill out and fax her my medical and insurance information. I'll do the dance and kiss her pinky ring if that's what it takes to see this wizard of oz, but she better be better than just good and willing to spend time with me when I make it in to the holy of holies for an audience.
Need recommendations for a good neurologist who has a little bedside manner! Thanks
Bekah M. replied:
Dr Diethelm & Dr Sykes both evaluate & treat a lot of Parkinson's Disease patients. They don't specifically specialize in anything. Both are basic neurologists so they treat a large variety of neuro issues. 205-836-9366@SVE bldg 48 suite 351.
Bekah M. replied:
I work at Neurology East - ofc of Dr Richard Gill Diethelm & Dr Paul Sykes & our nurse practitioner Jessica Whitaker Waine. All 3 are awesome! Dr Diethelm does Botox injections for migraines if recommended as well as all of them can treat all of the basic neurological issues. Our ofc number is 205-836-9366 & press option 1 to schedule appts. We are located@St Vincent's East between Trussville & Roebuck in bldg 48, suite 351. If any type of neuro surgery is necessary then they will refer to great neurosurgeons as well. Good luck.

Dr. Jan Mathisen@Children's is wonderful. My son has been under his care for nearly four years now. He is a pediatric neurologist.
Tracy M. replied:
I second Dr Jan Mathisen. You may have to wait in the room a while but that is because he REFUSES to rush. He sits down and dosent leave until hes satisfied you understand everything. I had a 2 hour wait one time because he had to deliver bad news and sat in the room with the mom until she was ok, and the office staff made sure we didnt need anything; drinks tv and toys, and kept us updated. I personally dont mind waiting on a Dr like that.
Amber M. replied:
I've been to Dr. Mathisen & he is awesome! He talks to the patients rather than the parents to get their perspective on things so he gets a better understanding. He's wonderful. Highly recommend!
Can anyone recommend a good neurologist in the Birmingham area? Thanks!!

Susan G. replied:

Rhonda B. replied:

Hey Jaide Barnett Winn. Dr. Koslin is good if you need an oral surgeon. Dr Chip Taylor on Hollywood Blvd (also has a location in Hoover) is an orthodontist. He made a bite plate for me years ago and cured my jaw pain and head aches. Number is (205) 879-5216.

Katie Ä. replied:
Neurologist: Gordon Kirschberg at Brookwood Hospital in Birmingham. Neurosurgeon: Thomas Staner- his office is in Greystone (down Hwy 280, which is a pain, but not bad for a morning appt because you can go against the traffic)
Those of you who suffer with migraine headaches, do you use a Dr in the Birmingham area that you would recommend? I used a neurologist in my early 20's. He is no longer...
Do any of my friends have connections with doctors in Johns Hopkins Hospital? I'm in need of a really good cardiologist and neurologist, and my family / ER doctors here...
Justin T. replied:
James Patrick Daily - I went to a cardiologist yesterday and he was able to tell that something is off with my heart. He thinks it's micro valve prolapse, but won't know until I get more testing done in early December. I think he's right though because I have every single symptom that they list on this page - http://www.mvprolapse.com/symptoms_testing.php. Let me know if you think this encompasses your symptoms too.
Andrew K. replied:
Emilie works at Johns Hopkins at the PICU so I expect she knows a doctor or two.
Art L. replied:
@Emilie: I had a friend named Marybeth Bounds who worked in PICU at JHU. I wonder if you knew her. Her husband is a cardiologist and has been able to relay some advice to Justin through this ordeal.
