Looking for a good Boston barber/hairstylist who can work with male Asian hair. And by work with, I mean doesn't just shave willy nilly. Someone who knows how to use...
prehistoricswagger replied:
Sorry, I only know racist barbers.
ruxxell replied:
my friend (who is Asian) tells me this place is the place to go: http://www.yelp.com/biz/hong-kong-hair-place-ii-allston or several other Korean places down the street near Blanchard's (beautiful cuts? crystal hair? something like that?)
ThatCool replied:
I use [Hair Adventure](http://www.hairadventure.com/salon.html), which is near the Chinatown stop downtown. Pretty steep ($38 not including tip, though I'm not sure if rates are different for guys), but the stylists are super friendly, and really take the time to listen to you and find out what you want. Also, I don't know if all all them can, but at least some of them can assess your hair type and recommend cuts that work best with your facial structure. Ask for Betty or Joe!
slickness replied:
you can try DaDa salon in Chinatown. Expensive, but you can get whatever X-Pop styling you want. Bring a picture and at least 50 bucks (not sure if you're a dude or not). Another option is the guy in Allston with the super long and permed hair on Brighton Ave (near where Herrell's used to be), or Scissor Sound. Don't quote me on Scissor Sound though, as I haven't been there in years.

i'm not sure about his prices for men, but peter at salon neo in quincy is great. here's their info on [yelp](http://www.yelp.com/biz/salon-neo-quincy)

If you are ever in Cambridge go to Hair Collage in Central. Lady is Korean and did a good job with my Asian hair. $28
bradalmanac replied:
Try Scissor Sound on the corner of Cambridge St. and Harvard Ave in Allston. Next to O'Brien's. The Yelp reviews are all over the place, but I've had nothing but good experiences there over the past 5 years.
Looking for a barbershop Hey everyone! I just moved down here from Boston and am looking for a place to get my beard & hair cut. Got a trim at Roosters in Germantown...

Could check out Shapow on Madison. Robin would probably be able to take care of you pretty well. She's got great beard oils too.
Barbershop recommendations for a broke student? Preferably $25 or less. Within a reasonable distance from the MBTA.

Go to a Dominican or Puerto Rican barbershop in Eaatie. Best cuts ever.
thankwoo replied:
Not necessarily the cheapest up front, but for less than 3 haircut's worth you can just buy clippers and either do it yourself or have a friend/SO do it. I'd bet I've saved at least $300-400, not to mention you can cut it far more often. These are good: https://www.amazon.com/OSTER-Adjustable-Pivot-Clipper-76023-510/dp/B001JJBC9Y/ref=sr_1_1_a_it (not a ref link)

http://www.333 boston.com/ $25 for a cut
Ruddose replied:
Supercuts usually offer free cuts via their "beauty school". When I was in college I used to get free cuts, you should be able to just ask if you call (there's one in Brighton). The cuts were completely fine, but they were nervous students and normal trim would sometimes take 30-45 minutes.

Sals in JP is $17 for a cut right on the 39 bus you can take from forest hills.
trendy hair salons (or barbers) around the area? My hair stylist is moving out of state so I need a new one. Im looking for a trendier salon or even a barber that does...
elindoes replied:
If you’re comfortable with the price range, I highly recommend elsewhere or shag!
Ithinkits_Apostrophe replied:
Skip shag and go to Po at 333 Salon on Huntington. They worked at Shag for a minute and decided they wanted someplace easier/less stressful lol. Check out their ig@po.ave. Idk if you would consider 333 “trendy” but Po knows their way around an alternative cut

What's the best place in Boston to get a cool men's haircut? Hey ya'll, I've been going to the same salon for a few years now but both of the stylists who I liked there...
g0rdontremeshko replied:
Tweed Barbers in the South End (formerly State Street Barbershop even though they were on Washington...) gives a nice cut and it's a good overall experience—drinks while you wait, hot lather shave—without breaking the bank.
Gee10 replied:
Fast Phil's. North Cambridge. $10. Insane experience. You often get offered a shot of Gran Marnier. The haircuts are inherently cool based on the above.
VOMIT_WIFE_FROM_HELL replied:
Wow! So many excellent recommendations within an hour of posting, I almost feel silly going with the same 2 stylists for so long. I really liked them but knowing there are so many great options I wish I had found a backup a long time ago. I called a few of the places mentioned ITT and the earliest appointment I could get was at Shag in South Boston so I'm going to give them a shot. Barbershop Deluxe has really piqued my interest, I think I'll try them next time when I have more flexibility in my schedule. Thanks everyone!
War_Daddy replied:
Barbershop Deluxe in the South End. I've always gotten stylish but understated haircuts from them, and always a really good job. Generally you need an appointment tho, which is kind of annoying, but worth it

Lessard's Barbershop in Brighton is old school authentic, cheap, and just plain great. Ask for Mike.

Just go to Supercuts. Not caring == cool.

Wow, great job describing what you're looking for. I may memorize this and use it when I find a good place to go. I live and work around Massachusetts south coast. My time is spent in Norwood, Hingham, Mattapoisett, Fairhaven, and occasionally Burlington. If anyone knows of a good place around any of these locations, please let us know.
elToribio replied:
To add to the existing list of recommendations, I highly recommend Dwayne at Ball and Buck. I don't get my haircut often, but I go once a month for a beard trim. He does an amazing job. Uses the buzzer to freehand trim the beard instead of relying on a guard to do it.

Lessard's in Brighton is hands down the best cut I've had in the Boston area. Ask for Mike or Matt. Good people, classic barbershop vibe, quality work, and only $16 (cash) -Just a PSA, I would steer clear of VIP barbershop in Allston. The one time I went, I was the only person not speaking Spanish, and one of the barbers pulled out a girl's thong and flung it at the guy next to me. Everyone went nuts laughing/dancing. Which would all be fine, but the dude gave me a hard skin fade with pointy sideburns. Definitely passed as puerto rican for about a week.

I go to Blade in the South End on Tremont st. They do some good haircuts and the prices aren't that bad. $30 for a normal haircut.

falafel_alone replied:
I was recently recommended State Street Barbers in the South End (not on State Street, actually -- apparently the name is from DC). It was a good haircut but a bit expensive at ~$37. Shaves are also $37, but both a shave and a haircut together are a bit cheaper, I think.
Toastbuns replied:
Goodfellas in Quincy is a good place for a man's cut if you happen to be out in that area.

I've been going to Phillipostyle near Fenway for a while, and I've always been satisfied. It's a little more expensive ($40 mens, I think?), but I'd rather spend a few extra dollars on something I wear everyday.

Check out Cut N Edge Barber shop on Mass Ave, right across from Mass Ave. station...it's as good as Razor's in Somerville, been going for 2 years. They all do good work I can see but I always have used Keith, he's the big guy. He will give you a cut and clean your beard for 20 bucks. They also do the warm lather and switch blade, and use that old school minty aftershave. Very friendly place.

I love Court Square Styling in downtown crossing. Haircut + straight razor neck shave + scalp massage + esspresso + the herald/the globe/men's magazine's all for 19 bucks.
HistoryMonkey replied:
I would recommend LaFlamme in Harvard sqaure. A very oldschool style place, I've been getting cut there for 20 years and it's been great. Cheap cuts, $15, I think. There are a couple duds in the shops you have to avoid though. Otherwise, it's pretty good.
