Gym / Fitness Centers in Boston, MA

I love Cambridge Strength and Conditioning. Its not a gym like most gyms, its more like little strength training club; lots of really strong friendly people there. Not sure if it is your thing.

Right now, my friend and I are kinda fanatical about cycling classes ([Velo-City](http://www.velo-citystudio.com/) specifically). But we just discovered and will probably join the [ClassPass](http://classpass.com/boston) soon - you get to check out all sorts of fitness classes in the Boston area, and you can cancel once you get your fill.

For cardio, I really like Flywheel Sports at Copley. Their classes are *really* good. I know I should want to hit up Vélo-City in Back Bay more … but I don't, as much as I know I should support the non-New-York and hyper-local guys. I attended some amazing barre and Pilates classes at Boston Body Pilates on Newbury Street, between Arlington and Berkeley Streets.

MetroRock in Everett is an awesome rock climbing gym. I've been a member for 2.5 years now and go regularly (and it's my only gym membership). They have plenty of beginner's classes plus different membership types. You can also take yoga there and they have a tiny workout room (I hate running, so for cardio I either do laps or get on the treadwall).

For Zumba, you can't do better than [The Z Spot](http://www.thezspotboston.com/). The whole staff has a great vibe. Lena, the owner, is a truly great person.

Central Rock (Cambridge/Watertown) It's a great place and as someone who can't stand a normal gym, it's the only type of exercise I've stuck with BKB if you are near Somerville.

MIT has a free rock climbing wall.

Brooklyn Boulders. I go to Bootcamp there religiously and drop in to yoga classes occasionally. Not to mention all the climbing you can do, plus cardio equipment and essentially two weight rooms. It's not super close to a subway stop but the bus does stop nearby and there's a free parking lot around the corner.

I go to (spin classes at) Recycle Studio - you can buy single classes or packages. Great atmosphere, fantastic instructors, killer workout - my faves are Stephanie & Lindsay.

[Esh Circus Arts](http://eshcircusarts.com/) in Somerville is a ton of fun. They have specialized classes for things like handstands partner acrobatics, lyre, silks, etc, but they also have some classes that fall into general fitness such as "Cirque Fit". It's a super fun way to develop yourself physically as pretty much everything is centered around body weight fitness and developing functional strength. It's a lot easier to work out when you're training yourself to DO a thing instead of just mindless repetitions. Classes range from advanced to total beginner and there are "taster" classes for everything to see if you'd dig it, and they periodically have workshops on the weekends. I've taken several of the partner acro classes, the cirque fit class, and I'm in my second session of the handbalancing classes. Super fun, super nice people.
