Neighbors, is there a local insurance agent you like and trust? Has anyone experienced not being able to get homeowners insurance because your house is "too old?"
Lori K. replied:
safeco just dropped me because my roof was 10 years old. Had their claims department and a roofer out to look at it and the result....no damage what so ever. BS!! so dislike insurance companies. Ralph Kirkbride is my agent and I have been with him for 10 years. His number is 303.274.2431. He is a genuinely lovely man.
Gary K. replied:
Our house is not only old (132), it's a Historic Landmark. This makes some insurance companies squeamish. The best company for us turned out to be Chubb. Our agent is Cindy Beck at Vangilder (303) 831-5240. What you have to watch out for is that most insurance companies will cover you for repair to damage, but that does NOT mean they will cover you for the same materials and workmanship. Our Cubb policy does that and it was the cheapest with the lowest deductible!
Linda G. replied:
Julie A Robbins, who is your agent? I've been with Allstate for years and stayed with them when I moved here. But I'm not thrilled with my current agent.
Lynsey G. replied:
Linda Galloway, we have All State as well and use Jim Kinney. He's been great so far. Two claims on our car (we use him for home & auto) and our rates keep going down. Not sure how that works, but certainly not complaining!
Brad T. replied:
Try the Stephanie Boothe agency in Uptown. 3033.744.0757. She seems to make everything work for me and my biusiness.
Sarah G. replied:
I use Rich Ahrenkiel of American Family, and my house was built in 1906. He has always been open & honest, and very reasonably priced. I like him a lot.
Julie R. replied:
My agent is Mary McDonald. She is in Castle Rock but I don't think that really matters. Her customer service is excellent and her staff is fabulous. Her #:303.663.2293.
Jennifer H. replied:
Our agent is Kyle Mediger 720-940-3039, he's in Parker, but I don't think his distance will make a difference. He can quote a BUNCH of different companies. I used to work for an insurance company and got an employee discount and when he quoted our current policy thru Metlife it completely beat the "discount" I got... Also, I do think having an agent who can quote several companies is beneficial bc if you go w/ a company who can only quote their policy then they haven't got as much motivation to get you the best deal. He checks yearly to make sure we have the best rates thru Metlife, and customizes what you need. Our house was built in 1884. Mention I sent you and he'll hook you up.
Jennifer H. replied:
http://www.theinsuranceadvisors.net/ Just looked at my agent Kyles website (above) and saw at least 9 different companies he can compare rates for. Many of which are mentioned here. Many companies have different levels of policies which cover different things...full replacement...actual cost, replacement cost etc. Any good agent can walk you thru which type of coverage you want and explain how it would be paid in the awful event of a loss.
Any recommendations for a great insurance agent or broker for homeowners and auto in Castle Rock?

I also use Matthew Fry with State Farm. Got the best deal with auto and homeowners...why should I bother switching!! Been with them since May 2009.

We also like Matthew Frye with Statefarm.
Danielle C. replied:
FYI if you have more than one claim with State Farm in 2 years they drop you, regardless of what the claim is and whether it was preventable or your fault.
Blake H. replied:
Depending on where you live I would avoid State Farm at all costs. Nothing against the agents, I"m sure they're great people but if you're in an accident with another SF insured, you both get hosed, and bad. It has happened to many people back in the Midwest, but that is also where they are based out of in IL and something like 7 out of 10 insureds used SF.

Liability insurance, the less pleasant side of running a martial arts business. What company do you use? About how much is the cost? Any valuable tips when searching for...
National F. replied:
Liability insurance IS tricky. When I had my own school, I used karateinsurance.com. Don Baldwin is the agent and is very good. It is medical insurance for fitness and martial arts classes. You can ask about the applicability for general liability. NWMAF has used this the last few years for camp insurance. We may have to move away from him this year due to increased coverage rules, but I would start there! (Teddie)
