We are looking to change our Internet service. Can anyone recommend AT&T U-verse versus RCN cable Internet? What is better for this area? Thanks!

Our Comcast service has been good but I practically went insane in the beginning trying to get decent WiFi signal. The modem/router they provide is AWFUL, and you pay a $10/month rental fee for it. We finally replaced ours with a $60 modem (I can give you the model if you're interested) and an old WiFi router I had lying around and that's solved most of our problems.
Blake V. replied:
Megan; here's a list of Comcast approved Modems/routers. Never rent from them; in a few months you'll pay just as much as if you bought one yourself. http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?ie=UTF8&docId=1001475021

Curious what speeds people get on comcast. Can you do a www.speedtest.net test and post results? With Uverse I just got 23 mb/sec. Is comcast that much faster? If so, does it make a difference?
I am wondering what's the best internet service provider in Lincoln park and Lake view neighborhood? RCN or Comcast? The building has both and I am thinking which one I...

I got comcast, subscribed to 50 down/ $40 a month on a promo deal, but I actually get 75 down, and then they sent me a letter in the mail like 4 months after sign up, saying they just randomly boosted my speeds to 75 down, but then I got 95-100 down lol. Complete Facts. I understand it all depends on location, but if you know what you're doing and don't use a rental modem and buy a good quality one for multiple reasons, such as you have to pay $7/month for a piece of shit that's bound to have problems, instead you buy yourself a modem for $50, and it is 99% less likely to have issues. Then you are way less likely to have home issues and only are worried about physical outdoor outages. I've been with them for over a year, just canceled and re-signed up with the same promo deal when I moved my apartment, and never had an outage or a problem and literally always get more down the pipe than I subscribe to. But that's just me.

Hurry and get RCN. They have 155 Mbps for $50 a month. That's amazing. http://www.rcn.com/chicago/high-speed-internet/

You could try Clear. It's what I've had for 8 years. Fast and reliable. They have different options depending on what you need. Not available in all areas though. But that may have changed by now since they were just acquired by Sprint. http://www.clear.com/

Depends on where you live..there are pockets where no other service is available other than Comcast who is the Devil for sure. I just had round 10 with them and still have to call back to get a credit for the days we didn't have service. No Government Regulations pretty much gives them the Green light to charge whatever they want. Yea....totally sux.

Molly S. replied:
I think it depends on exactly where you live. We cut the cord last year and have been streaming only (PlayStation Vue is awesome for streaming and you don't need a PlayStation). Given where we live (east of the river), the only provider that had internet fast enough to stream was Comcast. We checked with literally EVERYONE else as we hate Comcast and there was absolutely no other option for us.
