Hey, Matt. I'm from NE Ohio (Dover) and have been living in Toronto since 2007. Welcome! The best market is the St. Lawrence Market, and it's open on Saturdays but not Sundays, so check it out on your first day. In the same spot on Sundays they run an antique and flea market (instead of food). It's at Lower Jarvis/Lower Sherbourne. From there it's a nice and easy walk across The Esplanade to the Distillery District, with lots of cool shopping, the Mill St. Brewery and the best chocolate place in town (called SOMA). If you like to go to the theatre, the Yonge Centre for the Performing Arts (right by the Brewery) also has good plays and musicals. If you're more into movies, you should go see something at the TIFF Bell Lightbox, the year-round theater from the Toronto Film Fest. It's also in the "Entertainment District" and is not a far walk from the Drake and Gladstone Hotels, which are nightlife staples. Enjoy!
