1st several years (until 1935/6), Montgomery Blair H. S. had a different name. Anyone know the school's name?

Floyd, yes probably, but there was also a SSI at Chicago & Boston Avenues near present day MJC (Montg College) that played a part of old Sil. Spr. & was a predecessor to "Blair". My Mom went there when it was a Jr Hi (middle) "as well as I went there later when it went back to an elementary school http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Takoma_Park_Middle_School
Marjorie Dudley Brown . I knew your Dad too. Via the Post Office. Dick Dudley, but I was only 8 to10 ish, so his name to me was Mr. Dudley. Our families usta go fishing in a rented Chesapeake Bay boat & have picnics etc. Good ole days!

Doug, Thanks for sharing the memories! I'm sure that many that worked at the Silver Spring or Blair P.O. in the 40's, 50's, 60's and early 70's would known my dad, or my brothers. (Fred, Richard or Bill.)

If you are willing to go to Dundalk, the Gold's Gym is nice. I've been going there for about 4 years. They have 4 squat racks and multiple dead lift platforms, 4 flat benches, and a bunch of machines. They also allow chalk as seen by people who look like they just cleaned off a chalkboard after doing curls. It is also $10 a month, which is very nice.

Go to Exile fitness! It is a locally owned, powerlifting/weightlifting/bodybuilding gym. It’s as cheap as golds, but it has more specialized equipment and a super cool owner. Also, they have free chalk and a cool dog haha.

Exile and The Coliseum are worth stopping by for a single workout if your into lifting. I've been at Merritt Downtown for a bit and its become a good gym especially off hours.

UA, Merritt and Exile are your best options. UA has had issues with membership numbers so the monthly fee is about half what it used to be and I believe they also got rid of the annual contract...down side is parking can suck depending on the time of day. Friend of mine is a body builder and swears by Exile. I think it just depends on how hardcore you are.

Exile. Pig Iron gym.

I've been to gyms all over B-more specifically for weight training. The bottom line question is, "how much are you willing to spend?"

Back to the Basics Gym in Towson has several squat racks, benches, Olympic bars, bumper plates and other specialized equipment. Best gym I've been to and very reasonably priced

I just bought in Hampden and I was about to get a membership at Brick Bodies (because having my gym being only a block from my house is just awesome). I don't see a single endorsement for them in this thread. Does anyone have an opinion or experience they can share?

The downtown Merritt is a pretty good gym, I think about 70-90 a month.
Does anyone know of a gym that teaches strength training? Hey all,
I'm looking for a gym that offers classes on barbell strength training. I'm not looking for CrossFit...
Domopunk replied:
While I haven't used their trainers, The Colosseum is a good bet. The gym itself is great (I go there) with lots of lifting space. They have tons of trainers on staff and I've heard good things about them. Not much in the way of classes per se though.

You can just come lift with me if you want. I'm at Lifetime. Their trainers don't seem great, but it's an awesome gym.

My Crossfit gym, Top Tier Columbia, does have a "barbell club" which is focused solely on the Olympic lifts. The coach that runs out is very good and gets great results. If you are interested you can get more detail by contacting them at http://www.toptiercolumbiacrossfit.com/
