I am looking for preschools in the area for next year. My son will be 4 in Feb. We have visited Overbrook and SYC. I emailed NBCC to set up a visit and have not heard...
Kelly A. replied:
We waited about a year to get K into one of the toddler rooms at NBCC. I think it's easier to get into the preschool rooms, though. Love it there. I really wanted SYC, but I work full time. Not really option for us because of the schedule. I have not once regretted the decision to send her to NBCC. Ascension Luthern on Morse, mentioned above, was a really close second.
Lynette F. replied:
NBCC is great! Easier to get in, the older you are. I thought there was a sign outside saying they had preschool openings. Talk to Christy Deberson.

If you work either downtown or in Hilliard, I highly recommend City Kids!

Karen D. replied:
Check with Colerain Elementary. They do have preschool classrooms...mostly for orthopedic special needs, but there are a variety of therapists on staff. It is a most excellent little gem of a school.

My daughter attended Dahlberg Learning Center. Its off of Cooke Rd 43224. Its not a CCS but its funded through FCMRDD. My daughter attend a summer program and a preschool program there for her speech. She absolutely loved it there. She loved it so much that after she progressed to speaking at her appropriate age level, she went back the next summer as a "role model" student. You can reach Dahlberg by calling (614) 477-0606. Oh did mention its free :)
Heather T. replied:
When I called about it years ago when my child was in preschool, I was told they won't do anything until she started school. I have one currently taking speech at CCS and she receives therapy one on one during the school year weekly. She is also receiving help during the summer at another CCS location. Try calling the speech and language program 365-5230
Julie T. replied:
Understood Jodie!! The thing to remember is that the difference between private therapy sources and the schools is that the schools are limited to serving those whose limitations would negatively affect their academic performance. Private clinics and hospitals can address nearly all deficits

http://celiacdisease.about.com/od/schoolage/a/504 plans.htm I think a lot of places are willing to accommodate without a 504... I just know about this option because I and a teacher and because my daughter has an IEP. Hopefully someone else knows more. Of course at the end of the day it matters most that the teacher is knowledgeable and proactive!

My son was 5 when he was diagnosed, and he attended Enchanted Care in Hilliard. I talked to the Facility Director and she was amazing. She printed off the ingredients listing for every food item they served, and even offered to start purchasing GF items just for him. I declined that, and said I would just provide the GF items based on the menu they were serving each day. Based on the ingredients listings she gave me and me providing the GF equivalents for specific items, my son was able to eat the same foods the other kids were eating in safe forms. I was also able to specifically train 2 employees in safe handling practices to help eliminate cross contamination issues. There were a few other students with allergy issues, so the staff was very well informed and took precautions. They also made it so my son was in the first class to eat everyday, and they made his food before they made anyone else's. I am happy to say that he was NEVER glutened:-) I think talking to the facility about the issue before picking one is the vest way to go. Now that he is in grade school I was concerned because it is a much larger school. Just so happens that one of the teachers has Celiac's as well and she watches out for him! We all stick together!
Can anyone recommend a good preschool program in Hilliard for Lila?
Kristin H. replied:
My kids went to Enchanted Care, I loved it. However, I didn't have the option at that time to have them go to a part day program because of my job. Hilliard City Schools as a mentor program at their preschool, also Hilliard United Methodist Church has a great program. Mary Evans is good too.
Suggestions for preschool/daycare in Columbus? Must also be a place willing to take a school age child when school is closed. TIA

You might want to check with Kara Day - she used to have a MOPS group at church (Mothers of Preschoolers) and could tell you more about that group and how it is run. It might be something you could start in Johnstown.

King Arthur cake mixes are AWESOME in a pinch. I just made 4 dozen for my kindergartener's bday party and no one knew they were gf! Pepperoni, mozzarella cheese and cracker "lunchable" type meal. Turkey slices rolled with cheese held with toothpick. Jello jigglers (add extra gelatin pack). Make your own trail mix type thing - chex, m&m's, mini marshmallows....etc.
