MaryAnn, I wished I'd known about this place when we got married, it looks really amazing! I want to just go see it, never even knew it was in our own back yard.. http://www.dunafoncastle.com/

I'm going to tag Kia Ru. And since it's public, I'll also tag Kitzel Lynn Ruth. I'm not good at thinking of this stuff, but they both are. And very clever. And very creative.

This isn't a specific recommendation, but my wife and I have had great luck with vrbo.com, hopefully that will help.

My wife's family is doing a reunion this summer in South Fork, cabins were affordable but not very well reviewed. We don't go until July, so you make the call: http://www.cottonwoodcove.com/

[This place](http://www.peacefulvalley.com/) makes for a really nice chill-out in the off season. In summer it's expensive, but in April or so it's more reasonable, still snows and you can see moose, walk around, and just relax.

Air Bnb has lots of choices. You can start looking at Winterpark/Frasier

Try airbnb.com. We use them all the time. I searched Colorado and choose the filter 'Cabin' and I got all these results: https://www.airbnb.com/s/colorado?checkin=01%2F06%2F2014&checkout=01%2F10%2F2014&guests=2&room_types%5B0%5D=Entire+home%2Fapt&property_type_id%5B0%5D=4

Contact Fly Shops in the area you plan to fish. They usually have cabins to rent or know who you should call.

Drove through Bighorn Sheep Canyon this weekend - [this](http://www.sweetwaterriverranch.com/) looked liked like a great place to spend a couple of days. So many great looking runs along that highway.

I stayed at the KOA near Cotopaxi last April, there are cabins and it's right on the Arkansas river. I don't fly fish but there were quite a few people who were fishing there.

December in Colorado is usually pretty thin.. If you can I would postpone your trip until later in the Winter. But in any case, your best bet for having a cabin with moderate terrain near Denver would be something like Winter Park. They have a pretty strong snow-making set-up and a large town.
Pomegranate_Juice replied:
I would look into a cabin / condo rental in Silverthorne, since it's easy driving to a good number of ski parks (breck, copper, keystone, loveland) That way you can choose which park has the most open terrain once you're actually there.
AHSfav replied:
I would do winter park. Close to Denver, great terrain with lots of variety and cool mountain town
nicosuave7 replied:
/r/COsnow would have some thoughts as well A few pics were posted this week, El Nino is already showing up for winter out here
VMoney9 replied:
Early Season? Most places will still have large portions of the mountain closed. Loveland and A basin might be your best bets, at least on the front range.
pooppate replied:
Just to emphasize this point. It's possible that you will only be skiing man made snow. I wouldn't take the time or spend the money on a ski vacation to Colorado in early December. Even if they get some early dumps there will be no base and much of the mountain/s will still be closed. Mid February is best, but pretty much anything is better than early December.
Denarb replied:
A couple things that the others haven't mentioned.
First, if you want Denver area skiing, look into Dillon for places to stay. It's pretty cheap and probably 15 to 20 minutes from almost all the places in summit county. And Vail and beaver creek aren't too far either.
Second, I would also consider copper. I think it has the most genius layout of any ski hill in Colorado. It doesn't have the advanced terrain of a basin or the size of Vail, but its still something to look into
Three, if you know you're gonna do this, go buy a four pack asap. I know they're $150 for copper and I think less then $300 for epic resorts (Vail, Breckenridge, keystone ect.)
Four, I know others have mentioned this but December doesn't really have that good of skiing in Colorado. January is my favorite month but I also like skiing in the cold.
That's all man. If you need a ski buddy I'm at a basin every weekend so just message me and maybe we'll do some runs together.
etm34 replied:
Check vrbo for house rentals around that area. I got a house rental for 5 guys for $750 during new years week last year in Golden CO. I skied Loveland and Abasin and it was an absolute blast. If you are trying to do it in a budget and don't want to deal with crowds definitely do Abasin and loveland! Waited in a line maybe 4 times the 4 days we skied.
frank_mania replied:
OP has not returned, but in case you do, what others are saying is true. To find reliable snow in early Dec. you really have to go to British Columbia or Alaska. Both of these have much lower elevations, too, CO & NM have the highest base elevations, on average, anywhere.

Man, I love wolf creek. But it may be kinda difficult to get there from the east coast.

A lot of people are saying winter park and I myself like winter park but it's loaded with moguls and traverses, I would go with copper.

I'd recommend just buying yourself a MFLB. They're cheap (~$80), discreet, have a lifetime warranty, and work great. If you flew and don't want to fly home with it, you can mail it to yourself before you leave. As far as renting goes, never heard of such a thing myself but it may exist. If you're looking for a "disposable" method of smoking you can get a cheap pipe for $10 or less Question though, if you've seen places that do this; what exactly are you asking? Either they rent you a volcano for the price advertised or they don't. What exactly makes them "reliable" in this context?
