Shannon H. replied:
A psychiatrist provides meds, not therapy. If you're looking for someone to talk with the family and your teen and help with coping skills, communication, etc then you want a therapist. I'm a therapist in DeLand. 386-451-6343.

At the Center for Behavioral Medicine we are privileged to have Dr. Salvador Leo Cevallos who is currently seeing children and adults at the Counseling Center of New Smyrna Beach. The new office will be opening soon in Port Orange. Meanwhile, Dr. Cevallos is seeing new patients here in New Smyrna Beach. As a Child Play therapist I provide therapy to the children and parents, and when needed, consult with one of our psychiatrists.

In my experience it has been difficult to find good child psychiatrist around here. I would look at Nemour's Orlando or UCF. UCF had studies and programs that you can get into for free. A psychiatrist can prescribe meds. If you think that your daughter does not need meds, just some one to talk to, I would try a therapist instead. I do have a wonderful therapist for our daughter. Her name is Shani Clement and she can be found at bravevoices.com. I can't recommend her enough!
Psychiatrist recommendation needed I need someone that can prescribe meds as well as provide a diagnosis. I'll be going to counseling elsewhere. Who do you recommend?...

Sometimes its best to find them through your insurer so you know you're covered. Any specialization in mind?

You can call the Colorado Crisis Hotline (844-493-8255) to ask for referrals. Also, get an intake appt at MHCD (mental health center of denver)- they can also help you apply for medicaid, if needed. If you can pay out of pocket, try Adam Burstein. I think his office is in Park Hill area.

Boulder County has a mental health clinic of sorts that is free or cheap, cannot remember but they were on 55 th and Arapahoe. Wait, they closed but their website has other places that are affordable as well. http://bouldercounseling.org/ Good luck. If you ever want to unload something feel free to dm me. I am a local first responder. I think it is shameful that you of all people have to wait at all.
Poptartbandit replied:
A lot of psychiatrists have long wait lists, but they also have frequent cancellations. I hope you find a better option, but if not, take the February appointment and ask to be put on the cancellation list if they have one.
