Got a dog with a problem the vets can't figure out. Anybody know a Hartford area vet with "House"-like diagnostic powers?
W L. replied:
Pieper-Olsen in Middletown is the closest to you, other wise Dr. Rob Fair in Killingworth, CT or Dr. John Ouellette in North Madison, CT.
Elissa A. replied:
Arnie Goldman in Canton. Brilliant guy.
Daniel S. replied:
Opportunity here; I have not stopped laughing after reading "Fear and Loathing " references; crabbypants monsters! Of course any Thompsonian reference catches my attention, and brings me back to F & L days, Care I, toll free and the three D's: Denny, David and Danny. Thank you for your astounding scrivener skills!
Carlos C. replied:
Bolton Vet has a great roster.
Daniel S. replied:
Oh if only Dr. Bittgood were still alive! The greatest vet ever. Anyone remember him in the late 60's?
Brenda S. replied:
Dr Simms or Dr Brennan at Bolton Vet Hospital the best of the best. Saved my dogs life twice.
Dr. Groshek's interest lies in small animal medicine with special emphasis on ultrasound, dermatology, laser surgery, oncology and dentistry.
Melissa W. replied:
I love these guys, they have extended my dog's life for years beyond what I believed was possible, naturopathic medicine and energy work, acupuncture, it really works, http://www.frontierdoc.com/

Rheal Bouchard at the MacDonald Vet Clinic in Bloomfield is smart and patient, and practical. Doesn't order tests just to order them. He figured out a couple of sick cat issues for me, without a lot of drama for me or the cats, and without breaking the bank.

Dr Pennington in Windsor- this man has a magic touch and connection with animals-his own health challenges gives him a heightened awareness and ability! He's been our saviour for 4 animals with a variety of health situations- and I've never seen animals bond to a vet so well- small old office, reception is feisty and down to earth- and Dr Pennington is one on a million- good luck!
Kim C. replied:
Toby Kimm in Plainville. My friend has several stories of problems that several vets couldn't figure out. He figured things out pretty much instantly.
Kim C. replied:
Also, when my cat had cancer, the Yahoo Group for her type of cancer was of remarkably high quality. I think that's mostly because of one guy who was dedicated to it and created an amazingly thoughtful culture there.
Sara T. replied:
Lots of good suggestions here. My recommendation is Tom Morganti at Avon Veterinary Clinic, my former colleague and a real problem solver of a vet. If he can't figure it out, he can tell you who can. But I worked with him for 12 years and there's not much he can't figure out, and he's a much more pleasant person than House.
Thomas J. replied:
Toby Kimm is really, really, great
Jody G. replied:
Another fan of Dr. Kimm. He really is fantastic.
Chris K. replied:
Dr. Amy Mathews, Frontier Medicine, Granby, CT. The best there is.

He may have Lyme Disease, the Great Imitator. Doctor's have a hard time recognizing it in humans who can tell them their symptoms. What things can you observe? This might help -- http://pets.webmd.com/dogs/lyme-disease-dogs-canine-lyme-disease
Caroline F. replied:
Dr. Atz, Manchester Veterinary Clinic. He's intelligent, intuitive, versed in both traditional and alternative veterinary practices and seems to be an animal whisperer. He's also the kindest veterinarian I have ever met. http://www.manchestervetclinic.com/
Chris K. replied:
Also Animal General in Avon. Though Amy Mathews, both a UPenn grad in western medicine and an expert in alternative treatments, is God's own vet. Especially if you have an intractable problem. We've had a few of them and she's always come through. Also Dr. Wen on Long Island. A legendary angel like Dr. Amy. I also know Dr. Knaack. Admired surgeon. Knows his stuff, though not always open to alternatives. I've been though a lot of this. Call me if you want to brainstorm.
