I haven't had much history with Midwest Cyclery LLC in Westport, yet the times I have gone in to buy a tube or accessory the customer service has been great. Guess it depends what you are looking for, as some shops specialize in different areas.

I like Volker Bicycles for sure, as well as Velo Plus in Lenexa.

They sell American-made bikes (Specialized, look them up) and don't have the cyclist-elitists that some of the smaller shops do. Their prices range from beginner and up, even offering past-season bikes marked down.

There is a bike shop in River Market, actually. At about 5 th and Grand, up the street from City Diner. It seems very popular.

Velo+ in Lenexa has the most talented mechanics in KC.

River Market Cyclery does great work and they're in the area you specified. Lots of stuff in stock, can order what they don't have, genuinely nice guys and they do a good job on repairs and service. Family Bicycle down in Waldo does great work also.. My preferred shop.

I will forever recommend Bike America down in Olathe. They're the closest LBS to me, but the crew at that store is so helpful, and whenever you buy a bike from them you get lifetime free maintenance for it. It's ridiculous. I will never go to Bikesource (the next closest one to me) just because BA takes so good care of me.

You're looking for a bike shop in a pretty small area, so your options are limited. River Market Cyclery is one of your (few) best options. I also recommend Bike Source at 95 th and Mission road.

I think ppl who work in bike shops are in general good ppl. My girlfriend and I both got our bikes from Bike Source, she in Leawood and me in OP. I like both shops equally, though they're pretty far south from where you are looking.

Bike Stop in Blue Springs is very, very good. I highly recommend them. Great service, great sales people (if you want to call them that, they don't really push anything on you), great advice. I'll never shop anywhere else. And no I'm not an employee. My wife and I just bought bikes and helmets there, we had taken our old bikes in for service several times. Fair prices, good guys.

There's a great shop in Waldo called Waldo Bikes. It's owned by a guy and I swear he's the only one I've ever seen working there. He's pretty amazing, very helpful and won't try to get you to buy crap you don't need.

I hear great things about Family Bicycles, but I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Waldo Bikes. He's a character, but has always taken care of me.

I second going to Family Bicycles. They are quite nice, professional, and reasonably priced.
