OK This might be lame as fuck but sometimes the Nelson Atkins gift shop has some nice and creative pieces. At least they did a couple of years ago. I bought a piece for the spouse that was not too spendy and I think fits into your funky crafty category. Anyone else taken a gander in there more recently?

I get all my jewelry from http://www.jewelrybymorgan.com It's up north off boardwalk near zona rosa. The owner is usually there and he is a great guy who will work with your budget and not try to get you to go over it. I have gotten my wedding rings, some necklaces and a anniversary ring from their and they all came out amazing and at a decent price! They also have lots of unique and antique jewelry or can make you a unique piece.Only downside is they have odd hours( I believe closed sun and mon and open tues-sat from 10-6 but you may want to double check before going)

Set N Stones in Blue Springs. Tony the owner is a great guy and has been a bench jeweler forever. He can do pretty much anything. He made my wifes ring and mine.
skobalt replied:
I'm not sure if they do moissanite (good choice!) but Vinca on the Plaza does incredible custom work. Simon (owner l) is charming and Tu is a artisan. Good luck on your search.

I decided to get a peach sapphire instead of Moissanite, and had a great experience at Lillianne's. PM me and I'll send you a pic.

Karat’s Jewelers around 135 th and Antioch had it. But I don’t really trust any one-off places that advertise by billboard. Always seems tacky.

No experience with them, but have you tried Vulcan's Forge?

Drenon Jewelers in Independence is awesome. I went in with a rough idea of what i wanted my fiancé’s engagement ring to look like and we went through a dozen different rings where i picked out features of each i liked. They mocked one up on their design software right then and there. They sent me progress pictures as the ring was being molded, put together and finished. Really solid price too. They have 5 jewelers on staff and they’re all really good. They’ve got my jewelry business for life. Plus they’re family owned and i think on the 4 th generation of ownership. 10/10 recommend.
Niche Jewelry has been great to work with in the past! I always recommend them!

Warren Hannon Jewlers in Olathe on the corner of Park and Chestnut, I believe. We've been doing business with them since we got engaged back in 1970 and have a lot of faith in their integrity as well as their ability to accomplish what you need/want.

Definitely Warren Hannon. He reimagined my mom's wedding band for me. Beautiful and reasonable.

http://www.mjewelry.com it's by penguin park. Really great staff and will show you many options and get you the best for what you want. Ms. Fisher helped us find the perfect engagement ring and she even talked to us about the diamond we picked and showed us the imperfections that make it unique. She showed me how to recognize my diamond and even helped us save a little money. They were great and worked with us to find the perfect ring.
