I'm in coastal south Carolina, so heat and humidity is what I know best... We also have swamps here, which is just plain miserable if you are near one. Tractor supply sells Gordon's horse and pony spray. Its a fly spray that works amazingly for mosquitoes. Also check out Fly Armor. Also, alternate your fly sprays. Try sprinkling some fly bait on your barn isle (or somewhere you can rake/sweep up) overnight. Keep leaving the bait out over night until your fly population dies down. Then sprinkle as needed. You can feed diatomacious earth if you don't have a picky eater. I do think it helped with the flies over the summer. Garlic can make horses anemic, so don't feed to much if you feed it. Fly sheet wise, check into sstack mosquito mesh fly sheets! Reduce any standing water sources, and drop misquote bait in any ponds that are near.

This is what works for me in SC. I have noticed there seems to be regional differences for what is effective for bug control tho. I swore by Tri-Tec 14 in VA, but the SC bugs just laughed at it. Also, look into Verugreen BugPellent from SmartPak to hang in your barn/stall/run-in.
