I have had great luck in the past with corn oil for my horses. It's cheap and it puts weight on and makes their skin and coat beautiful. Coca soya seems to be a bit more "trendy" now and the farm I'm boarding at asked me to switch to that and I've had pretty good results with that too, but not quite as good as the corn oil. I have tried Cool Calories in the past and it caused both of my horses to be kind of jacked up... like they had been drinking too much coffee. They looked great, but the side effect was not worth it to me. I also would consider electrolytes too. I like the water kind better than the feed kind, because if they eat it and don't drink enough it can be detrimemtal. Good luck!

Rice bran and body builder! I also live in FL and feed my hot headed ottb Seminole feed! I mix the calm n cool with dynasty show n sport and he's actually keeping weight on for once in his life! I do add in rice bran! But when he dramatically drops weight I put him in body builder you can order it from jefferspet.com! They are awesome and in Dothan AL

Ultimate Finish 100 has been helping, saw a big difference in just 3 weeks. In coastal SC and my horse lost a good amount of weight when we moved to a new barn (change in feed/ switch to 1 xday feeding/ from small pasture w/ 1 other horse to huge pasture with 8 other horses). He is getting Triple Crown Complete, 1 cup rice bran, 4 oz Ultimate Finish 100, 2 scoops grostrong minerals and an electrolyte supplement. He is on 24/7 lush pasture and currently on no hay (will go to 24/7 coastal round bale in slow feed net as horses eat down pasture too much) SSTack.com has the Ultimate Finish on sale right now.

what I personally have my horse on: Actiflex powder for joints(they also have a liquid form), Tri-Amino for muscles, Daily Red (mineral/electrolyte). I was previously using GroStrong minerals and really loved that, but its produced by ADM... and I'm not gonna take that risk. My horse was on Diatomaceous Earth as well. Going for a period without to see if it made a difference in anything. For weight, go with rice bran and hay pellets/cubes. nothing else works as well that I have tried. For digestive, ProBios is my go to.

I prefer Foxden Equine supplements, especially their joint supplement HyCel EQ, but unfortunately only their pelleted products are carried by SmartPak. I like TractGard or SmartGut for tummies, SmartFlex series is pretty good, and Cool Calories for weight gain. Omega Horseshine is a great supplement for skin, coat, & general health.

I thought you were saying you were cutting back on hay completely and doing a grain to replace the hay! I was going to say that won't help at all but that makes more sense now. I use Cool Calories on my hot mare who has a hard time keeping weight.
