Hi neighbors! I need recommendations for a Endocrinologist and a Nutritionist. Thanks!
Kathleen M. replied:
I have Hashimotos and a goiter and nodules and I went through a variety of doctors who said nothing was wrong even when I had every symptom of Hashimotos and very severely at that now and I am with Dr. Thomas Ahn in Century City. Yes it's a drive but he is so smart he diagnosed me on the spot. There is a great book on Hashimotos it's pretty new. Doctors won't really go way into depth with you about it all. Dr. Ahn cares, returns all my anxious calls, treats me with kindness and has no wait time. I could move to someone on this side of town sure but I just loved him so much I didn't want to.
Laura D. replied:
Love Dr Geller. He discovered I had thyroid cancer Took me a few doctors to find him.
Joan M. replied:
Lindsay so sorry to hear you had a bad experience with Dr. Geller. He has been my internist for about 15 years and I am always had a really good experience. That said when I developed a thyroid nodule I went to the thyroid expert in Los Angeles who is Peter Singer at USC. I think the thing that happens on so many of these threads where people are asked to recommend various professionals is for every doctor that is recommended there will be someone who had a bad experience.
Lindsey B. replied:
Her name is Christine Ferrell in Westlake 818-865-8500. First appointment and blood labs are expensive but she has found and treated things about me that no other dr discovered after 10 year search. She also prescribes me my natural thyroid medication. LOVE her.

Best in the valley. He practices here and at UCLA. Certified in Endocrinology, nutrition and internal medicine. Dr Ian Yip. Corner of Victory and Topanga. (818) 615-2888
Joan M. replied:
Years ago I had a patient with PCOS, she went to Dr. Geller and was very happy. But if Dr. yip can offer both of the things you need that might be the way to go. Does your regular doctor have someone he or she recommends. That is often helpful for getting an appointment sooner
Randi K. replied:
There is a wonderful nutritionist in Dr. Shalita's office. Can't remember her name. Call 818-676-0080 and ask about the nutritionist in the office.

Lindsey B. replied:
i'm surprised to see recs for Dr Gellar. I did not have good experiences with him AT ALL. he gave me no solution for combating my hashimotos (discovered 6 years ago). Came to find out, if he had offered me a solution, I could have slowed and even stopped the deterioration of my thyroid. he would not medicate me because he said my issue was "borderline", was not willing to try natural dessiicated thyroid medications when it was time to medicate me. I had a horrible reaction to the med he did prescribe and his only response was "sorry, stop taking it" no offer to try anything else (!?). I later found other decent endos. I have a fabulous nutritionist and an incredilbe hormone replacement therapist who have healed me completely. Please PM me for more info if you are interested Carla. I would even be willing to get on the phone with you. It has been a loooong journey for me.
Carla F. replied:
I think I will give Dr. Ian Yip a try since so many of you recommend him, thank you all.
Joan M. replied:

Nutrionist Dawn in Dr. MASSOURS OFC 818-702-9962 tell Jennifer I referred you. She's great!
Lindsey B. replied:
Kathleen, your story sounds just like mine. Hashis, many nodules one huge, finally got over 4 cm and came back with a suspicious biopsy. I had a total thyroidectomy on 4/22. Cancer was discoverred. After months with my hormone replacement therapist adjusting my dose of Armour thyroid (NOT synthroid!!!!) and doing an amazing amazing cleanse that reset my body and allowed my body to heal itself www.nykkiscleanse.com I feel like my old self again after an awful 7 years. I"m no longer swollen, tired, gaining weight. I feel great. It's a shitty journey. Being a woman is NOT EASY. best of luck to you all.

Does anyone know an endocrinologist who knows about CFRD in Los Angeles? I am experiencing frustration with people telling me my A1c is "fine" even though it is...
Even though the mechanism is not fully understood, it has beendemostrated that in CFRD patients haemoglobin A1C doesn’t correlate with mean plasma glucose, therefore a normal HbA1 c may not be able to early diagnose CFRD. Holl RW, Buck C, Babka C, Wolf A, Thon A. HbA1 c is not recommendedas a screening test for diabetes in cystic fibrosis. Diabetes Care....See More

Kayla's new endocrinologist recommended she take CoQ10. I have read that dissolved CoQ10 in soft gel capsules is better absorbed. Does anyone know of a good brand that...
Kurt D. replied:
Kat - as a follow-up to Suzanne's post. CoQ10 comes in two forms - Ubiquinone and Ubiquinol. Ubiquinone is reduced to Ubinquinol in the body in most people. However, with high oxidative stress (common in autism) this reaction may be compromised. Therefore, Suzanne is correct in that Ubiquinol is preferred. The general dosage recommendation for CoQ10 is 5 to 10 mg/kg daily. To convert pounds to kgs divide pounds by 2.2, then multiply this number o the mg. I would tend to use a 10 mg/kg dose. Here is a good product from New Beginnings - http://www.nbnus.net/shopexd.asp?id=414
Velma R. replied:
Kat there is also a great website called www.epic4 health.com That sells all Coq10. We buy liquid Ubiquinol.
Robyn L. replied:
Kat I will support Dr. Woeller as I believe that New Beginnings is the best source.

There is a closed group for the Oregon area - you need to send an email to reequest in so that we make sure we don't have trolls, Dr's etc coming in for insurance reasons: https://www.facebook.com/groups/347390731965221/ send email to info@oreds.org - there is a lot of talk on good doctors in there as well as a list of Dr's that others have used. OHSU is not one always recommended for EDS ,etc. but there are a lot that are.
