Jen L. replied:
http://www.vaclib.org/news/church_autism.htm When I first spoke with my daughter's pediatrician about not vaccinating, she seemed supportive. Around the time of her first birthday, in July of this year, she and the rest of the staff became very pushy and judgemental, and did everything they could to make me feel like a bad mother. So, I walked up to the office one day, handed them the print off you'll find on the link I added, and told them we would never be back. I'm not sure what state you live in, but most states have a "religious exemption," and there is NO way they can dispute it. I have spoken with the LLL I am a part of, asking if they knew of any vac friendly PEDs in the area, as I haven't lived in this town very long. They were more than helpful, and most of them named the same Dr. Most major metros have an LLL organization. I started going when i was pregnant, and still attend when i am able to, even though I do not breastfeed anymore. Since you live in a small town, my suggestion would be to branch out as much as you're able to. The women in your area will know what's best. The last thing I have to say is....you are the mom. If they don't like YOUR decision, that's not your fault. Sorry this was so long, and good luck!!
Bo W. replied:
you can also go to savvy chiropractors... they can sign exemptions and what not... they are DR'S. You can find a "homeopath" or a Naturopath.... health food stores... we never go to the DR... all they do is jab posion into you. www.nvic.org/ this for for exemptions in the future.... if your child is young you don't have to worry about it now until child goes to public school or public daycare.... private schools another story

I appreciate your diligence in doing your research. One small suggestion would be you don't have to be so concerned with pleasing the doctor - it's your choice and he or shee works for you - but regardless it is great you have taken the time to investigate this important issue - just don't think you need their permission - sometimes it can be intimidating dealing with someone who has been doing this for a long time - as to kickbacks I think more pressure comes from insurance companies becase their rankings are based in part on vax rates so they do question why a doc has x number of unvaxxed patients - as to finding a doc all I can say is some don't even find much value in all the well visitis - if you think they will help thats fine I just dont want you to think becasue there is a schedule or whatever you have to go - there is no science that says these visists lead to better outcomes - you can consider a general practitioner - some have said they are more flexible - this is a good book on a doctor free lifestyle http://www.amazon.com/Raise-Healthy-Child-Spite-Doctor/dp/0345342763

Kind, gentle, caring, took an emergency appt for my dad on a Saturday when he wasn't even his patient, and - and this is HUGE - will NOT keep you waiting. Typically, they are ready and show you right back when you arrive. At the most, you might sit for five minutes. So unlike my last dentist, where I had to wait close to an hour on several occasions (and then left his practice). Third-generation dentist in Media - you don't get more hometown than that!

I use Dr Claire Field.

I take my kids to Dr. Miniman (and I also saw him myself as a kid), located on the clover leaf by Granite Run Mall. http://www.minidentonline.com/
Amy K. replied:
Dr. Field is great. My youngest was pretty scared of going to the dentist when he was little and she and her staff were always wonderful with him.

We go to Dr Kenneth Miniman on Baltimore Pike right before the 352 overpass. Pediatric Dentist only. Very good with my son. He has never been afraid if the dentist. Never a wait. They handle all insurance claims timely. Appointment times are always spot on. Friendly office staff and an overall excellent experience for the past 11 years! Can't say enough good things.

Thanks for all of the suggestions everyone! After doing some research online, I made him an appointment at Rose Tree Kids. I will let you all know how we make out

Just as a follow up, who do you go to as a pediatrician now that Dr. Lehmicke retired? I am not sure if I should stay with Riddle or find a new practice. I liked Dr. Lehmicke!
Alyssa M. replied:
Not in media, but my son goes to Dr Rose at Eagle Crest in Havertown. she specializes in kids with special needs. My son does not have any issues, but her 'chair side' manner is amazing and her staff follows suit. Def worth the little drive.
Stacy C. replied:
It's not Media, but we go to Eagle Crest Pediatric Dentist in Havertown. Dr. Rose is amazing with the children. She talks to them and really makes them feel comfortable.
Stacy C. replied:
Eagle Crest is open until 8 a couple nights a week and I think it may also be open on Saturdays
Amy G. replied:
My kids love Dr. Field. She's recently moved to Swarthmore, though. Still not far.
