Anyone know of a good vet in Astoria? I've been to Astoria Vet Group a few times and really didn't like them. Need to check out my dog, Bax. He's been bitten by a few...

Dr Glasser@Steinway Court Vet is the best.. He's the first one to recommend my pup gets the Lyme disease vaccine because we spend a lot of time on Tick-infested L.I. I just had the yearly bloodwork to show she is free of any tick infections:)
Megan E. replied:
Please read this before getting the lyme vaccine. most vets do not recommend it (" none of the US Veterinary schools list the Lyme Vaccine on their recommended lists of vaccines for animals") plus its not allowed to be used on humans any more because of the negative side effects but is still used on dogs even though they have the same issues from it.....Please read this article before considering the lyme vaccination. http://www.dogsnaturallymagazine.com/lyme-disease-and-lyme-vaccine-disease/ (dogs can also still get lymes with the vaccination) "the Lyme vaccine manufacturer only considered side effect which occurred within 24 hours prior to releasing the canine vaccine. Research from Cornell University Veterinary School however lists long term effects from vaccination as rheumatoid arthritis to “all the symptoms of actual Lyme Disease to even death via acute renal failure”. Dogs would be affected 4-8 weeks post vaccination with the Lyme vaccine."

All Pets on Steinway and Ditmars. Dr.H is incredibly thorough!
Lindsay B. replied:
Astoria Vet is hit or miss, but if you see the right vet there, they're great. Dr. Weltz and Dr. Smith are both very smart and also really gentle with the dogs.
Eleni K. replied:
I used Dr.Glasser for years and left because he often recommended a lot of unnecessary procedures…(he sawed my dogs canine in half rather than take out the whole tooth, which then years later had to come out anyway costing me double in surgery) I felt he was out for the $$ and then my fiends cat died suspiciously in his care. I was at Astoria Vet w/ Dr. Crespo for a few years till he left, Dr.Kilcullen was who I was given after and I hated her bedside manor. She doesnt take kindly to questions or explain thoroughly. The 36 th AVE animal clinic was really awesome with my dog during an emergency visit and they are affiliated with All Pets as one of their Vets, is the in-house Surgeon for All Pets.
Kalliope N. replied:
Hey there, just my 2 cents on 21Ave Vet Clinic and that Dr. Behkett: DONT...just DONT. Used to take my cat there before I knew better...his staff is incompetent, his techs are sketchy, the Doc himself is arrogant and does not give a shit about anything other than his bottom line and padding your bill. He and his associates traumatized my cat who had barely months to live while gladly bilking me out of thousands of dollars. Astoria Vet Group is actually quite legit. Yes, the front desk ladies can be flaky, but isn't that almost always the case with medical receptionists? lol...Dr. Jodie Smith is an angel and an animal whisperer. My dog will take a chunk out of you if you so much as give him a bit of side eye, but in Dr. Smiths hands he is a melting ball of compliance!

We use Derry Animal Hospital and love them. They always make time for us and Dr. Boulter (our vet there) has made calls after hours to us to check on Obi. We've also gone to AVC in Manchester on an emergency basis and been treated like long time patients.

Everyone will have their favorites. I have tried many places and all 5 dog now go strictly to Crossroads animal hospital in Londonderry. Dr. Grove and Dr. Wyatt are two of the best vets I've every had the pleasure of working with. I have been to a few that are OK, but crossroads has consistently gone above and beyond, which has impressed me above all others in the area. Best of Luck.
Amanda G. replied:
I am a former Derry resident and had great experiences with Dr. Boulter (as shared with Tina Figenbaum Frost. Derry Animal Hosp was great and I sincerely miss going there.
Tammy W. replied:
@Jared I agree, I have been going there since Dr. Hertel pretty much opened, we had a great experiences with him at the practice he worked at prior to opening and were ecstatic when we had an emergency and that office was closed for the week and we were referred to crossroads and found him again. Since then he has gone above and beyond for all of our family and friends pets. They are up front and will give you all options if there is a problem. I also love Dr. Grove, actually saw her last week. I haven't seen Dr. Wyatt yet. But can only imagine they are great too.

Dr. Peterson or Dr. Rydstrom at Daniel Webster. Both of them are very respectful to you and your animals. They also are great at listening to what you have to say about your animals. Dr. Rydstrom, listened to me when Dr.Rooney didn't, Rydstrom saved the life of one of my dogs, because she listened.
