Looking to buy my first "road" bike. NOT a cruiser. Any suggestions on bike shops / know anyone looking to sell a ladies' road bike for someone about 5'7"?

I just rebuilt a bike with Bayou Bikes and they were very reasonably priced and great people.

depends on how much you are willing to spend/what kind of quality you are looking for. GNO cyclery on carrollton has a bunch of nice guys willing to help you out/ get you fitted, but they are very expensive. Search craigslist. That's where i got my mountain bike and i love it.
donasay replied:
Your price range and expectations are off unless you are in the market for a used bike. If you are cool with a used bike I recommend heading over to Plan B, http://bikeproject.org/ they are open today and sell completed bikes. I believe they have some great stuff right now in your size. As with all underground bike places stock changes regularly. If you are willing to wait for your bike go on over to DIO bikes https://www.facebook.com/dio.bikes when they get some new stock in it will be well maintained and completely overhauled to be almost good as new.

If you find my hybrid Trek bike that was stolen last week, you can have it.

Dont know if its too late for this, but recycle-a-bicycle dude works at the bike shop on frenchmen, he built my bike like 4 years ago and its still going really really strong. I feel stupid but I cant remember his name. Lenny or Mike I think, its been a while. But he will put together something nice for you! I built a bike at plan b and its good, but having someone who knows what they are doing is much better. Good luck! DONT FORGET to get a good U LOCK!!!!! Your bike will get stolen if you dont use one.

There are an abundance of rides and riders on the northshore. You might try joining the local Facebook group and connecting directly with other locals. There is great cycling on your side of the lake. https://www.facebook.com/groups/213862775392103/?fref=nf Besides that, NOBC does a bunch of weekly rides, some more formal than others, but most at a brisk pace. Semi-Tough Cycling Club (STCC) also offers a bunch of weekly rides, with the Friday ride being the easiest option.

If you're in Covington/Mandeville, the bike shops would be Bike Zone and The Spokesman. Yes, the 6:45 Saturday ride that does the Giro route is a little bit more gentle than the actual Giro. There are usually weekend group rides on the northshore as well, so you will want to find the Northshore Cycling FB group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/213862775392103/). Most of those rides are also posted to the NOBC email list (https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/nobc-members/info).

Check out The Bike Path in Mandeville too. I lived in San Diego for 10 years and am familiar with what you've been riding. Come join us Wed night at 530 pm in Abita at the trailhead. And as Randy said look to North Shore Cycling's FB page for a list of all North Shore rides

We work on everything from push rod breaks to turn of the century. Christopher Frye is right it is easy enough through tutorials to learn how to do it. I also don't mind showing you if you came by with your bike. Also anyone can claim to be a professional bike mechanic. It's the folks who do it out of passion for bikes that will know what's up. the other guys just get paid to work in someone's shop

Mary Hewes .. No snobbery here.. Go with DIO... Some of us are a bit... Surly.... No one means harm.. We actually all try to take care of one another. Strong advice is one of things we do.. If we didn't care about your safety or you as a rider, this post wouldn't have been addressed. Welcome to the cycling community of NOLA. Bike safe out there and if you need something, post here!

Ronald F. replied:
Most bike shop will have the tire you need. I would recommend Bayou Bikes, Bicycle Michaels, or GNO. Those are full service shops that should have the tire you need in stock. If you want to learn some bike maintenance, come down to Plan B. for other maintenance, if you do not want to learn the work yourself, Dio Bikes are the peeps to go to.

Dio Bikes is a great resource-honest, trustworthy, friendly-

Plan B is the New Orleans Community Bike Project. We're a non-profit shop that provides the resources to fix, or learn to fix, your own bikes. In a pinch, however, Dio Bikes will get you on the road toot sweet.
Can any of you recommend a bike shop in New Orleans or Slidell area to replace the tube on my rear wheel? I may also get a general tuneup of the bike's gears and brakes.
