I need help. Should I go to school to be a veterinarian assistant or a dog groomer??

If you want to become an AHT Animal Health Tech that is diff than Vet. Assist. Look at Mesa College. I used to know some vets that taught there. http://www.sdmesa.edu/animal-health/

From my experience this is what I discovered. But its also been a while so I recommend you go and interview a tech at a well known and busy hospital. Reg. Animal Health Tech is very involved (like a nurse) minimum 2 yrs. specialized program at only a couple colleges in S.D., with waiting list. They get medium to semi decent pay w/ experience, depending on how big and busy the hospital is, it can be very fast paced (like an emergency room) and you need to also be able to work well with little supervision. Vet Assist is hardly any schooling to sometimes none, low pay, don't really get to do much of the medical aspects, and probably hard to get a job as many hospitals want the RAHTs. If you are pure animal lover with starry eyes it may be hard to deal with cuz you do need to harden up some (euthanasias. turning away animals or euthanizing due to owners lack of money, lots of gross cleanup and terrible injuries, personel that sometimes don't really care, etc.) I know cuz I did it for 10 yrs. before everyone went to AHTs. Grooming you don't deal with the heartaches but it is hard, sweaty, and at times just plain gross work. Does call for a little artistic flair like hairdressing if you want to be a good one.
Can anyone in Oak Harbor area recommend an Avian Veterinarian? We are super excited cuz a new family member is coming home today. An African Grey Parrot. But our vet...

Well I know of a good one in Sedro Woolley. He is the owner on North Cascade Vet Clinic. Tim Howland is his name. Kinda far, but he is very nice and smart:)

Thanks Kimberleeelee. It's worth the trip if he's good. We go to Anacortes now. LOVE the vet there, Dr Anderson. But he doesn't see birds. Thanks!!
