Does anyone know of a vet that does home euthanasia visits besides Dr. Lewis? Thanks
Pam P. replied:
Dr. Fryer will....805 649-4094, as will Dr. Bailey......I don't know if this is for Clients only though.....
Liz V. replied:
Super Nice people. http://venturavet.net/about-us/euthanasia.html
Sherry K. replied:
Dr Halford, he is a mobile vet. Very gentle and compassionate with this type of situation.
Sherry K. replied:
Halford #525-6641
Alex M. replied:
Dr Sallen came for Otis 2 years ago and it was so loving, peaceful and gentle. Wouldn't have wanted it any other way.
Dolores G. replied:
I had to euthanize my cat George a year and a half ago - Dr. Sallen - it was not a home visit - it was the best possible experience given the circumstances - I agree with Alex. He makes it as loving and comfortable as possible. He is a very kind man.
Mia E. replied:
I'm so sorry to hear that you have to do this. Dr. Fryer is my absolute favorite vet after Dr. Lewis. Sallen is also wonderful. I would call both to see who they recommend for a home visit if Lewis isn't available.
Kerri S. replied:
Dr. John Halford is great and he will do it
Heather M. replied:
Dr. Pasek is a mobile vet who specializes in this service. She offers consulting too if you are not sure if it is the right time. I have known two people who used her and said it was the best possible experience given the circumstances. I'm sorry you are going through this. http://www.inhomevetcare.com/inhomeser.../in-home_euthanasia
Pam P. replied:
I would ask Dr. Junia Borden Childs DVM as well...she specializes in Eastern/Western Veterinary Medicine, is Local and. Wonderful Woman as well.....805 646-9695.....and she makes House Calls
Brenda M. replied:
Dr. Bailey.
Brandy N. replied:
I just had the most kind experience with Dr. Jessica Spitzer of Lap of Love Animal Hospice. Was really hard to let my girl go, but Dr. Spitzer was incredible. http://www.lapoflove.com/Locations-California-Ventura-County
Rebecca W. replied:
Junia doesn't do euthanasia. I asked her when Nacho was in his last days. Dr. Bailey will, if you arrange it in advance with his office. Dr. Bogart will not, because she is so tender-hearted. There is also a place in Ventura that Dr. Lewis's wife, Nancy, told me about, in case I needed someone to come in an emergency and I couldn't get Dr. Lewis.
Deb L. replied:
Dr Bogart will at her office- entire staff is fantastic
Rebecca W. replied:
Yes, Dr. Bogart will at her office, but it's hard for her in the home. She is somewhat quiet, but she has a huge heart, is super gentle, and is a great vet for kitties. I was so touched when she "teared up" when we had our discussion about euthanizing ...See More
Debra M. replied:
Check with Dr. Sallen
Chelsi W. replied:
Dr. Lewis is the absolute best
Kellie M. replied:

I'm looking for a groomer that does teeth cleaning for dogs, my dog is up in age and don't want to take her to a vet that will insist on anesthesia. Please pm me if you...
Sarah F. replied:
Here is a typical procedure on an older dog. The only thing I never did was the application of flouride. I did check for pockets of infection up under the gum line, and if needed, inserted an antibiotic gel .http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5PBWBqAJ0U
Pam P. replied:
Thank you Sarah Jenks Flesher.....Dr. Fryer has a Dental Special every year.....Animal Clinic of Oak View.....

'friend who neglected dog's teeth - dog got an infection all over and died!:-( 'having teeth cleaned by vet can be $500 - if they require blood test - I've paid that! My B. collie is too 'antsy' for the non-aesthetic cleaning - has always gotten heavy tarter!:-( I've been using PetzLife oral care gel for 2 months - spread it on her gums and remove water bowl for 30 minutes. Tarter is almost gone!:-) Pet Barn in Ventura sells it and so does Amazon.
Laura S. replied:
Call Ellie. She's the best teeth cleaner ever. Sometimes she goes to aloha. If she comes to you maybe she can do mine on the same day. (805) 404-4615

Leslie F. replied:
Dr Bailey, or Dr Bogart!
Donna B. replied:
Dr. Sallen.
Antoinette M. replied:
I love the Ojai Valley Vet Hospital. They are always available, nice, and never do expensive procedures without giving you an estimate and all of the other options first. They actually saved me money! During the fire they did a free respiratory check up for my dog who was coughing. Dr. Bailey and Dr. Bogart at Matilija Vet are excellent, but Dr. Shouse at Ojai Pet Hospital saved my dog from the brink of death recently by catching a very uncommon diagnosis and implementing the proper treatment. I love both offices but was glad I got a second opinion with Shouse.

Keila S. replied:
Dr. Fryer & Dr. Sallen are both great. I've found that Dr. Sallen's office ( Ojaivet.com ) has more of a small town, intimate feel if you're into that sort of thing. Dr. Sallen also provides a wider range of services (dental, surgery, etc.) and brings in specialists on a regular basis -- so you can have more of a "PCP" for your pups.
Chris C. replied:
Looks like you have plenty of recommendations already, but I can't say enough good things about Dr. Sallen.

Dr. Sallen!!!!
Keila S. replied:
Dr. Bailey was actually really rude and insensitive toward me when my 15 lb dog got hit by a car. He realized it and discounted my service, but I would never recommend him due to his bedside manner. I paid $500 (after the discount) and took her to Dr.Sallen. Bailey literally asked me how much money I had to spend...before he did x-rays or anything.
Eileen T. replied:
Animal Clinic of Oak View. They are wonderful with both my Boston Terriers.

Contact Kim Stroud, Ojai Raptor Center (805) 649-6884.
Dolores G. replied:
It's confirmed - Fancy Pigeon - if you google images for fancy pigeons you will see all kinds of interesting ones with the same head shape...it probably belonged to someone - Raptor Center has a pigeon aviary so it's safe! Call them if you know of anyone that lost their pigeon.
Marge E. replied:
Raptor Center is 'well connected' - will see this baby get to right rescue group.
Dolores G. replied:
Thanks everyone. The Raptor Center is coming to pick it up. It seems healthy and alert this morning, but doesn't look like it's eaten much. I sent the pics to the raptor center and they don't know what it is.....thinking maybe some kind of parrot. They will let me know and I'll post the follow up.
Melissa W. replied:
It is a fancy breed. I seriously don't think the raptor center is a good place for this bird. Pigeons are terrified of rapters. call a pigeon rescuer here in Ojai called Tammy at 660 3911 . I can keep it till she can take it if you want.

Nora H. replied:
You can get this at rainbow warehouse. My kitty loves it. http://smallbatchpets.com/cats_frozen/
Nora H. replied:
It did not take long at all. The best way to do it, is to start mixing the raw into their regular food. Here is a nice transition guide on the small batch website http://smallbatchpets.com/how-to-feed/
Hugh M. replied:
We have a cat with exactly the same issue, also giving him the same food. Sadly there is no real alternative as of yet on the market or available through a Vet. We tried years ago to change the food but just made our cat sick again, the vet sympathized but told us some of the ingredients actually do make it easier to keep the disease in check. We find the wet food variety is much better for digestion. But we also do feed ALL the cats a great product they can all handle, it is called "Ami Vegan Cat Food" it's healthy + great for teeth and gums. Good luck:)
Erin P. replied:
I was hopeful when I found out about Wysong Uretic cat food. The ingredients list looks much better but have read reviews of cats being back at the vet after a couple months on it, so not sure I'm ready to take that gamble.
