Where are the secular thrift stores in this area? I have some stuff for donation, but I have an ethical problem with donating to any church-run or religiously-oriented...

Habitat for Humanity has stores all over called ReStore. Also, The Philadelphia Furniture Bank gives things directly to those in need. They do not sell the items that are donated.

For the food, you could try the Bethesda Project at 16 th and South. I'm not sure about the toys though. Perhaps the Spanish Clinic (Puentes de Salud - spelling???) at 17 th and South might have a need for them for either their waiting room or to pass out to their clients.
