Can anyone recommend a gun shop/firearm training center? I'm looking to buy my first gun, not sure on which type yet (rifle, handgun) and get trained on how to use it...

If you're accessible to south philly these two sell and have ranges at the same location. NE has a couple stores but no ranges open to the public that I'm aware of. I believe the one up there is by membership.
[Firing line](http://www.firinglineinc.com/default.asp)
[PAGC](http://www.philadelphiaarcheryandgunclub.com/)
If you're willing to buy at one location and learn at another I'd recommend [PhillyGunRange](http://phillygunrange.com/index.html) for learning because I don't think they're able to sell. That also frees you up to get a better deal on the gun you're buying. If you do want to do it all at once I think PAGC is probably the better option in terms of attention you'll receive, but not the cheaper one. If you're shooting a rifle you're probably going to end up going to firing line at least once in awhile, as they have a decently long range given that it is indoors and in the city.
Some unsolicited advice is to go to one that is convenient, let them know what your situation/experience is and rent before you buy. I'd say that goes doubly since you're not even sure if you want a rifle or a handgun. Once you buy do yourself a favor and sign up for one of their basic NRA classes if you've never been shown how to handle a firearm before. Any place with a range will run the NRA courses from time to time.

You can't buy from them (yet) but check out The Gun Range at 549 N Percy St (used to be Colosimo's) for a great place in the city to shoot. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and I believe they offer lessons and training.

In addition to the others, Delaware Valley Sports center has classes and rentals. OP, I'm sure another redditor, myself included, would be happy to show you the basics to help your decision.

If you have a car, check out Targetmaster on 202 just above the PA-DE border. They have classes and lots of rentals that you can try out.

There's a few really good places right outside the city, tanners, Clayton's, classic pistol, and surplus city. You could also check out pafoa.org it's a Pennsylvania firearm owners forum you could learn a lot from there.

[Delaware County Field and Stream](http://www.dcfsa.org/) just had an open shoot a couple of weeks ago. Volunteers are set up at various shooting ranges and can assist and instruct proper gun safety and operation. This could give you a feel for what type of gun you're most comfortable. Keep an eye on their calendar for the next date(s) in the spring. There's a "Redneck" shoot coming up the second Sunday of November. Loads of laughs!

Have you tried calling The Arsenal in Deptford? According to Google they are open at 12 noon to tomorrow. 856.232.4837. They are on Cooper Road in the same exact building that used to be Ed's Gun Shop many years ago. I really liked that guy.

The Arsenal (Deptford) and Freedom Ammo (formerly Hague's, West Deptford) are gtg. Arsenal stocks Anderson lowers, Freedom stock Aero take your pick. Both typically have a decent stock, not horrible but not great pricing (typical for a brick and mortar store) and great folks.

I would check out Ken Crane... Hes located in Crum Lynne, PA. Its about 10 miles south of Philly.. Near where I95 & I476 intersect. Old school guy, very cool, very knowledgable & If he can't fix it himself, Im sure he can point you in the right direction..
