Does anybody know of a vet that will allow us to come by flea meds without having to bring in the dogs and pay the office visit for each one? $150 per dog is too much...

Mandy Welch the Vetco people at the Gig Harbor Petco can prescribe the pill form of the flea medicine, I'm not 100% sure on how much they charge but there isn't a crazy exam fee you just need to show up with your dog so they can weigh them to give you the right dosage ! They're there ever Saturday &Sunday from 3 to 530 (:
Kristi E. replied:
Just took my dog to Cedar Creek on Saturday, they charge about $55 for the exam and another $50 for the 3 month dose of Bravecto which 2 days later he is flea free:)
Scott R. replied:
I use Advantage Plus from Walmart, it works good. Get that and bomb your house the same day, it's a lot of work, but it works.

Try Brewers Yeast, 1 pill a day & no fleas...buy at Walmart in pet section! It's all natural

Paws is good, but petsneedmeds.com is cheaper and you can buy in bulk. Look carefully at the website. If you get lost and decide to try it, you can pm me.
Julie H. replied:
My kids get theirs at Paws in E. Bremerton. One has a cat, the other dogs. They say is is quality flea medicine at a much better price. No need to take pets. Maybe Mishell Andrews can tell you where it is. Not too far over the Warren Ave. bridge.
Cheyanne F. replied:
For most vets, it depends on the product you'd like to use. For Bravecto you need to have your pet up to date on annual exams in order for a vet to prescribe Bravecto as it is an oral med. For topical treatments and flea collars those are OTC. I recommend https://www.facebook.com/107825555921414Woodside Animal Hospital. Exams are under $60 and they can find the best flea meds that work for your family and your budget. Hope this helps!

NO VISIT NEEDED TO GET AND YOU CAN BUY ON AMAZON CHEAPER. Also it's good for 8 months
I think the good stuff requires a prescription and an office visit. There's a low cost vet Tractor Supply on Sundays I believe (worth a call).
Beth C. replied:
Animal care Veterinary Clinic will sale it to you over the counter 20 bucks no office visit. It is in Olympia but we'll worth the drive.

Comfortis, Trifexis, and Revolution are all prescription flea preventatives and need a current annual exam in order to purchase them. There are several other alternatives, such as frontline, advantage, K9 Advantix, etc... Flea infestations suck! I've dealt with it before, but monthly treatments on the pets, treating the environment, and washing pet bedding and any other linen that comes in contact with your dogs helps a lot. I even had Terminex come when all of the above didn't help. I also use a powder called Flea Busters, to sprinkle on carpets to help kill the fleas. Or a spray called Mycodex helps too. Good luck!!

It's not quite what you're looking for, but keep us in mind :) I've been looking for things to add to a page on my website for any homeless that have the chance to visit... Personal experience with Purdy Vet for 7 years now. I live in Tahuya and willingly drive about an hour to take my dogs there. I can't afford expensive vets, and they are priced fair. I would not go to Woodside or Banfield. I have family who go to Woodside and have had a few bad experiences and one family member who could afford expensive vets but has been in a Banfield contract that she regrets. Banfield treated one of her dogs badly and now that dog starts shaking in fear when she is taken there. I think the contract ended recently so my cousin is going to get a new vet.

We used Woodside veterinary hospital for 12 years and they are excellent! However, when our doggy needed some teeth removed, that bill was a bit high so we took her to Purdy Veterinary Hospital. All Creatures in Gorst is good with the animals but wont work with you if your struggling financially ...Bremerton Animal clinic on Callow will work with you and are good with your animals but its very old place my grandma used to take her dogs there. I too had a miniature Dachshund she had three bridged disks in her little back ...she had pain meds because she would wake up at night screaming in pain the poor baby:'( I kept her comfy as possible carried her little bed with her in it up and down the stairs so she could go potty 4 times a day and gave her wet food while she was recovering. DON'T allow her to go up and down stairs, jump or climb.

It's not crazy Lynnea Olson Higginson! We just about put our 3 yr old Sheltie down. Totally couldn't move. Drs could find the problem. My cousin in California told me of her dogs chiropractor. She found one for me here. $40 visit and he was on the road to recovery. He met us at the vet clinic, where my dog was on IVs. He's awesome! He is one of only a handful of licensed animal chiropractors in the state of Washington. He comes to you. He travels the Peninsula, and schedules himself once a week in Fife for the day. I bred Dachshunds for about 9 years. Yes this is common for dachshunds. It is young but can recuperate. Don't do surgery without taking pain meds to get him rest from it. I would do chiropractor first. It will save you 100s of $$$. We spent over $1200 with no answers. They were sending us next to a animal neurologist. Great vet. Linux and great care though.
