Anyone know a family doctor who's open-minded and GLBT friendly? I'm looking for a doctor. Just the stuff like physicals, and when I get really sick.

[Dr. Brad Patterson](http://www.stelizabethphysicians.com/ourgroup/physician.aspx?id=199) or [Dr. Patrick Burns](http://www.stelizabethphysicians.com/ourgroup/physician.aspx?id=128) from St. Elizabeth are both LGBT friendly and highly regarded Doctors. Dr. Burns is one of the highest rated doctors in NKY.

Good question. I'm also looking for a family doctor, so this was helpful. On a related note, I get self-conscious when I talk to my doctors about my sexual orientation only because I worry that a doctor may let their personal prejudices get in the way. When I told my former OB/GYN that I was in a lesbian relationship about five years ago, he started asking me questions that were none of his damn business. "Do you use toys? How is it different from being with a man?" (I had previously been in relationships with men and had children.) I changed doctors immediately and have been careful about choosing doctors since then.

Can you go somewhere and not bring up your sexuality?

So not to be a jerk, but if you are a transexual, this is a special case and you should probably be going to the right doctor for your bits and pieces, and not how you identify. Otherwise...I'm having a hard time understand how it really matters.
Do I have any friends in Toronto whose Family Doctor is taking new patients? I need to find a new doc in the St Claire or downtown area. I want it to be a female though.
This might be a good topic: Who were your family doctor/dentist growing up in SF?
Cindi P. replied:
Dr.Robert Olson@the Medical Arts Building across from Sioux Valley Hospital & Dr. Paulson for dentist on MN Ave. Both had Highlights mags in their waiting rooms....
Colleen S. replied:
Long answer - Dr. S.A. Donohoe who delivered me, Dr Vandemark who took care of a leg problem, Dr. Gregg who cared for my eyes, and Dr. Goldie Zimmerman who had an office in a bank building down town. She did everything else. When I was little (100 years ago) the Vandemarks were on 11 th St. just west of MN Ave.
Pamela R. replied:
I think my dentist was Dr. Mansfield. What I remember is his office on 10 th street across the street from a pharmacy and at one time, a small Sunshine store. There was a print of Andrew Wyeth's "Christina's World" in the waiting room and when I was five he smacked me in the head/face during a visit (I probably bit him). Thus began my intense fear of the dentist and dislike of Andrew Wyeth artwork. I've gotten over both problems but it took a long time!

Great topic Tim. Who knew there were so many docs in SF? Jeanne, we went to Dr. Cutshall also, at Donohoe Clinic on Minnesota. And I could not remember the dentist's name until I saw Terry Johnson's post. I should have remembered because my mom smoked Salem cigarettes at the time. We went to Dr. Salem who was across from the southeast corner of Woodlawn. I thought he was brutal with the Novocaine injections but reading the other posts, I now am grateful that he used it at all I guess!

Our dentist was Dr. Dunn. I remember looking up at his nose hairs coming out of his nose while he worked on my teeth. I hated going to the dentist! He definitely was not a child's dentist, but I guess he was affordable for my folks. He had an office on Minnesota ave.
Dawn M. replied:
My dentist was Dr. Diedrick and he never used Novocaine he just gave you a nickle when he was done and let you pick something out of his treasure chest - and what is surprising is I do not remember any pain when he filled cavities. My doctors were at the Great Plains Clinic on Minnesota. I remember Dr. Donahoe would come to my house when I got bronchitis.

Deb L. replied:
I remember Dr. Harry Farrell (our pediatrician) would come out to our car in the parking lot to examine whichever kid was sick instead of spreading any illness inside his office. He was such a nice man. I did my allergy shots there. Ms. Hyronimus was his nurse and she was super nice too. I can't remember her first name.....

We went to Dr. McKenzie for DDS, I think Dr. Ogburn, at least my Mom did, and Dr. George Barnett, who is a family friend as well as a great guy.
