I believe there are different kinds of Cardiologists with their own specialties so you might want to mention what specifically you're seeking the cardiologist for & others sharing may want to mention what they had done. For NON-INVASIVE Cardiologists in CR: I had numerous people refer me to Dr. JUAN CARLOS ELISONDO ELIZONDO URRUCIA at Clinica Biblica in San Jose. MANY MANY MANY have said he’s one of the BEST General NON-INVASIVE Cardiologists in CR. 8 1/2 years ago I ended up going to a cardiologist after a EXTREMELY SERIOUS temporary HIGH blood pressure “incident” (prior to leaving on a trip with LOTS of stress to catch up on work & I pulled 2 all-nighters & 3 days without food/water with LOTS to do [adrenalin has always been MY "drug of choice") because I figured who better to have ALL the equipment for testing I felt I’d be requiring (EKG, stress test, blood tests, etc) than a Cardiologist!! I figured - no waiting around in all those individual lines (that sure brings my blood pressure up BIG TIME!!) - logical!! (FYI - my 5 hour “visit” to CIMA’s emergency room only cost $200 with blood workup, ekg, pills, doctor car, chest xray, etc.!! My have times changed at CIMA in the 8 1/2 years) Dr. Juan Carlos got me in within 2 hours of me calling him & he REALLY took the time to listen to me & he even gave me his cell #! 8 1/2 years ago it was ONLY $50 for the exam & an ekg with him. Later I had a basic Stress Test, ekg & exam that if memory serves me, was around $85. My “instinct” felt REAL good about him from the get-go! & He speaks VERY GOOD English!! Dr. JUAN CARLOS ELIZONDO URRUTIA (2-522-2075 / 2-522-2076 / 8-392-6246-c / 2-224-2400-pager / http://ClinicaBiblica.com/.../105-juan-carlos-elizondo... / JElizondo@ClinicaBiblica.com, Criscar@racsa.co.cr, sumedico@ClinicaBiblica.com) RATE: 50,000/$100 (I haven't updated lately) LOCATION: Torre Médica Omega - 5 th Floor, Clinica Biblica (it's one of the main hospitals in CR), San José-Centro/Downtown HOURS: 8-7 pm - Mon.-Fri., Sat. by appointment@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@For STENTS & BYPASSES type issues: Carlos Calderon Calvo 2-257-6282 x2228 2338 I’ve heard he is the BEST in the WORLD when it comes to STENTS & BYPASSES!! (not sure if that's a fact or they're just so happy with him) Dr. Calderon specializes in Interventional Cardiology, Coronary Angiography & Coronary Angioplasty. He has sub-specialties in interventional cardiology, coronary angiography, and coronary angioplasty, all from St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in Houston, Texas. He has taught courses in cardiology at Universidad Autonoma de Ciencias Medicas de Centro America, and both electrocardiography and internal medicine at the Hospital San Juan de Dios. What HOSPITALS are the best for CARDIAC EMERGENCIES? Last I checked - Hospital SAN JUAN de DIOS (2-257-6282 / 2-257-2370 [I've had a hard time getting ANY of their phones to answer]/ http://www.hsjd.sa.cr ) had BY FAR the BEST CARDIAC CARE in CR as well as the ONLY adult BURN UNIT in CR, THE BEST EMERGENCY ROOM & the BEST INTENSIVE CARE unit. They're AWESOME for all these things but being a GOVERNMENT HOSPITAL, I personally would NOT go there for other care necessarily. VISITING HOURS: Also note that their visiting hours are HORRIBLE (when I had someone in intensive care it was just from 6-7 pm a couple years ago & only 1 person at a time). WARNING: When you call, MY experience is RARELY do people that answer the phone speak English or make much of an attempt to get you to someone that does. I had a guest in SJDD's Intensive Care Unit & his VERY wealthy family said they felt VERY GOOD about the care he received in ICU. INTENSIVE CARE (IC - 2-222-0176 - Visiting Hours 4-5 pm). LOCATION: San Jose-Downtown - Hospital San Juan de Dios - Paseo Colon (Paseo Colon - between Calle 14 & 20 & Avenida 2 nd•Segundo) Coordenadas: 9°55'59"N 84°5'10"W - http://wikimapia.org/3079398/es/Hospital-San-Juan-De-Dios Hospital Mexico also specializes in Cardiac Care. Anyone know if any of the newer hospitals have great equipment & docs for cardiac care??
Linda S. replied:
Vicki Skinner you agree with me about Dr Elizondo at Biblica, and I think Dr Calderon sees private patients too, but not sure which hospital he uses if you don't have Caja.
Jaime F. replied:
Salomon Frischwasser hospital cima. Inbox for phones
Larry K. replied:
Dr. Osvaldo Gutierrez Sotelo at Clinica Biblica, he's treated my wife for about 3 years now and replaced her ICD last year. Great Doc and speaks English.
