Friend is looking for a psychologist experienced with treating anxiety in Seattle or Eastside Anyone have any recs?
bws2a replied:
I've had a good experience at Associates in Behavioral Health near Seattle U. I've seen 3 docs there, all superb IMO.
too_anxious replied:
I think mine ([Cristina Mullen](http://www.cristinamullen.com/)) is very good. We've been using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to treat my social anxiety and it's been quite effective. Her office is in the Columbia City neighborhood. I also should note that a huge factor for me was caffeine, which I learned independently. World of difference.
BusuB replied:
Is cost an issue? Is she insured? If so, with whom? Lots of choices, but the gold standard in anxiety treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Tell your friend as she's looking for a good therapist, to ask about treatment modality and therapist philosophy. I hesitate to recommend a particular person because a good therapist, while hard to find, really just boils down to one you personally like. I cycled through 3 before I found one I meshed with.

I know of one that has been really good with a friend of mine who has (a) panic disorder. All I know is that the doctor is in Northgate and they are fantastic. I will get back to you on the name once I get a hold of my friend.
doctorink replied:
Look for Evidence Based Treatment Center of Seattle. They specialize in CBT and Exposure based treatments, both scientifically, empirically supported treatments for anxiety disorders.
Roticap replied:
I don't have a specific recommendation for therapists, but would like to suggest she look into isolation tanks. There's a place called [reconnect float house](http://reconnectfloathouse.com/) in greenwood. I've found it to be really helpful with treating my anxiety, but in a different way from talk therapy. I come out of the tank calm for a couple days. Then I am able to see better how the anxiety comes back into my life and work to avoid it. I'd be happy to talk more about it with your friend if you like. Feel free to shoot me a PM.

Dr. Malissa Hawkins! I worked with her for a couple years and she's amazing. If she doesn't have openings, her associates are also great.
thebusinesses replied:
were you going to sound mental health by northgate? you'd be better off just drinking.
seriously, i don't know what's up with seattle, but i've had 3 shrinks that are so show stoppingly dumb, i've resigned myself that there are simply no answers, and I might as well do whatever I want as long as i can get away with it. which is far more enlightened and healthy than such chestnuts as "channeling my chakras", "aligning my chi," or realizing "where parts of my body are."
presumably, there is some kind of internet college only in seattle where you can be a psychologist if you send away a bunch of froot loops box tops or something like that. once i had a shrink just put on netflix for the full section, i shit you not.

Does anyone have a good female psychologist/psychiatrist/nurse practitioner to recommend for a 30 year old? Would not have to be in the CC area.
Beth D. replied:
I like Dr. Soeprono at Wellspring on Rainier. I think she's on temporary leave, but her fill in (Dr. Crowley), is also great. I used to be very hesitant about mental health practitioners after some bad experiences when I was younger, but I couldn't be happier with them. They've always taken my concerns and needs seriously and have never been patronizing or offputting. I'd recommend Soeprono or Crowley to anybody. I think they also have therapists in that office, but I go to their downtown office when I need a counselor/therapist.
