I'm writing an article at the moment and need to recommend a few good vets in Taichung. I use National Vet on WuQuan 8th Street and many people I know recommend...
Paul A. replied:
I would never recommend National. My experience with them was horrible. They never diagnosed my dog and just kept pumping her full of steroids. The steroids actually masked the real problem and now she is dead. Fuck National!
Paul A. replied:
I went to National on Gwogwang road. And I'm not an idiot. Of course I took her to other doctors! Even Chung Shing university. National was getting results using steroids and assured me she was getting better. But they never said exactly what was wrong with her. I started to get the feeling they were just guessing. Then I moved to Taoyuan and took her to a doctor here. She crashed in his hospital and was on life support. He diagnosed her with a swollen brain stem, something the steroids were masking. Don't imply I was too stupid to go somewhere else. I just had her put to sleep at 2:30 today and am in no fucking mood for this. Allow me to clarify; fuck the National on Gwogwang in Dali!
Mandy L. replied:
I also recommend James and Harriot. The vet on the corner of DongXing and Gongyi also good! He is great with all the strays and fosters we bring in. It's called Dong×ing Vet hospital.
Douglas J. replied:
Dr Julia Huang at Loving Kindness on Wuquan West Road is amazing with cats.
Douglas J. replied:
Loving Kindness near the corner of Taiwan Boulevard and Wenxin has 24 hour emergency now too.
Michael S. replied:
As Kevin mentioned, it's worth including the only 24 hour vet in the city. National Vet. http://nbt.vet.com.tw/National/address.htm
Michael S. replied:
Mandy Lee has the info for a great one on Dong Xing rd.
Sam O. replied:
I second James & Harriot. After my demonic feline ransacked an exam room, they welcomed us back.
Can anybody recommend an English speaking veterinarian?
Billy W. replied:
Jennifer Tann is an English speaking vegetarian

http://www.taichungpaws.org/?page_id=261 this should lead you to a link that gives contact information. They now have 2 branches, the one nearby SOHO street and one in Beitun. You can also go to Loving Kindness on Wu Quan West Road and see Dr. Julia Huang. She's amazing with cats.
if you live near Tunghai; then I'd recommend here. I take my cat and they are super friendly and the vet speaks fairly good english. https://www.google.com.tw/maps/place/%E4%BD%B3%E7%BE%A4%E5%8A%A8%E7%89%A9%E5%8C%BB%E9%99%A2/@24.1840772,120.6176985,19.75 z/data=!4 m2!3 m1!1 s0 x0000000000000000:0 xcb5742 b9 ab30579 f

There is also Dr Kun Yang Tsai. He studied vetenarian sciences in the UK and we were refererred to him via the Huikuang Guide Dog Center. They are in the basement level under the Starbucks on Henan Road. This guy mostly takes referral cases that other vets can't handle. It's like a five star dog hospital/hotel. Tel 04- 2707 3887
I used to go to "Spring" 春天動物醫院,the vet could even operate on hamsters. 春天動物醫院 No. 294, Jinhua N Rd, North District, Taichung City, 40457 04 2235 0838https://goo.gl/maps/V2 h2 xWwhcFn
Gabi L. replied:
I usually go to one of the National Vet branches, but it kinda depends on which vet you get, and what your pet's problem is. I tend to go to either the Wenshin branch or the Cat Hospital. On a Tuesday, I recommend the latter. http://nbt.vet.com.tw/National/address.htm
I need emergency vet info for Taichung ASAP, please! Thanks!

Douglas J. replied:
Jessica, are you talking about Loving Kindness? I didn't know they had 24 hr emergency. I believe the only one is the National mentioned above. But Loving Kindness has a great doctor named Dr. Julia.
Hi all - we just adopted a 2 month old Pom puppy and I was hoping to bring her to the vet shortly after taking her home. That said, I THOUGHT I'd gotten a recommendation...
Mandy L. replied:
I use dongxing vet! he's lovely. also James & Herriot is awesome! good luck! p.s: I just have to point out though (in the most polite way possible) that the motto is 'adopt don't shop'. if you say you adopted her it implies you rescued her which may be a disservice to people who dedicate a lot of time and energy to helping abandoned/ stray puppies, kittens, cats and dogs (like my friend Eve below). i'm sorry to pick apart the semantics and I know it isn't intended to offend :) congrats and enjoy her! https://www.facebook.com/dogsadoption?fref=ts

Also need to get my cat neutered - can anyone recommend a vet and give a rough price? I live in the North/Beitun district. Thanks in advance.
Gabi L. replied:
I use the National Vet branch on Wenxin near the corner w Meichuan. The Wed afternoon and Saturday guy, Dr Jimmy, speaks great english, and the Thurs/Sun lady is good too. If you're close enough to Jinhua, just east of Chongde, Dr Ben (Mon and Thurs after 2 pm) is excellent. Also a National Vet. branch. I've had cats treated by them for various things, but not for neutering, as my cats were feral when they were neutered. For ferals I go to Cambridge.
Gabi L. replied:
Scroll down near the bottom to National Cat Hospital. You'll get the receptionist though. http://nbt.vet.com.tw/National/address.htm
