I see Dr. Brendan O'Malley. He is near USF. He was the cheif of staff at UCH before retiring back to the practice. He is very thorough.
Kris L. replied:
Dr. Chandra in Tampa or his associate Dr. Gilling. Both are wonderful. 813-977-5557. I would personally stay away from Halawani. Never heard anything good about him. Worth the drive to Tampa. Good luck.
Can anyone recommend a pediatric endocrinologist? Thanks!
Tammy B. replied:
Dr. Parker was a brain cramp.....she is gone. We have seen Dr. Shah. Appointments are somewhat difficult to get but worth it. They also do certain conditions on certain days so maybe other days are not quite as crowded.
Tanya U. replied:
Thanks for the info! On the website, only one doctor is listed. Have you seen Dr. Shah or is Dr. Parker at a different facility?
Beth V. replied:
We use Dr. Verena Jorgensen out of USF. We have been with her for 6 years and love her. Her # is 813-396-2580. She works out of the USF Diabetes Center.

I see all the ped. Endos from Tampa to ft. Meyers on a regular basis due to my line of work in diabetes. If were going to bring my child to one, I would either pick Dr.Shuchi Shah, or Dr Lenz at St Joes. Cheryl Tindell at USF is great for type 1 adults as well.
Anyone have an endocrinologist they can recommend?

Hello!
I know I haven't gotten to meet any of you yet but I thought I'd ask for some info.
I have had T1D for almost 20 years and have never ever considered a pump...
Mariah S. replied:
In my opinion I believe it is very beneficial to get a pump. But every person is different so are pumps. I have used pumps for 6 yrs I think. Pros: you can eat on a less strict schedule, you don't have to use needles everyday, you don't have to calculat e how many units you need, and if you are low you can disconnect your site. Cons: it may come out of place or not deliver right (its rare though). Plus I know of a lot of health care professionals who use pumps or even a dexcom sensor and find it INCREDIBLY beneficial to them. As for an Endocronologist, I go to a pediatric one and they will take me until i'm 21. Plus i'm not sure if theres other restrictions they have. My doctor is Dr.Declue. Btw I am studying to be a nurse as well, i'm a first year and struggling lol, so kudos to you.
